You know folks, at this point, I think we're getting this...

Fantasia
Fantasia 2000
Bonus Disc for Both
DVD of the honored original

There's your four disc set.

If there IS no four disc set, and it is only a TWO disc set, then look for Fantasia with bonus content, and Fantasia 2000 with all that Fantasia World stuff ported over.

According to Big Picture Big Sound (who got info from a press conference in New York), here's what we have to look forward to:

"The Fantasia four-disc boxed set will contain a beautifully restored version of the 1940 classic--scanned at 4K and remixed for 7.1 channels--as well as Fantasia 2000, plus a platter of Blu-ray extras and a DVD copy of the film. Among the many special features will be an interactive edition of the fabled Shultheis Notebook, a priceless animators "bible" compiled over the career of one of Fantasia's key creators, and the first-ever home video release of Destino, Walt Disney's collaboration with Salvador Dali. Destino is backed by its own 70-minute documentary.

The folks at Disney have also thought up a novel way to preserve archival, standard-definition bonus features without cluttering up the disc: We will be able to download them via BD-Live! The Fantasia box will be released in December, at a price to be determined."

So alot of the features won't need to be on an extra disc, apparently.. They'll be downloadable through BD-Live (which sucks in my opinion..)

I'm still waiting on a press release from Disney, though... to confirm all of this (as it could have changed in the past couple months), and to give us the actual release date to see if it corresponds with the rumored December 7th date.

Wow that really sucks that they are going to be only downloadable via BD-Live. Basicly Disney can remove acess to them at anytime they see fit. I dont like the idea of that

Uh, I believe, like the non-streaming trailers, they stay on your hard-drive, but not sure.
(They tried downloadable featurettes on Prince Caspian, so I'll have to check if the ones I downloaded back then are still there.)

And yes, I can see optional downloads for making-of's on current films, but when we're talking stuff out of the Archive, that's when you want them in nice indestructible form.
I sense a lot of the mountains of obscurer stuff from the old Extras disk ("Swan of Tunela", for one) just got a big fat snub to make room for oo, the weird Dali short that all the experts wanted!

When I first read that I felt and thought the same thing. Let's just speak the truth here. I don't ever download anything thru BD live, it is usually more time consuming. Also not everyone connects their BD players to the internet. Some just can't.

I feel like Disney seems to not be thinking about consumers much at all instead about saving a disc. How about this save a disc and dump the digital copies! If I have a HD version of a film there is no way I will watch a poorly rendered version on a small screen. I bought it in HD for a reason.

If you can't put decent extras on a disc then why go thru even more trouble posting them as internet only extras. I am sure it sounded great on their end, just comes across cheap on the consumers.

Just a reminder that Disney hasn't announced the release yet, nor have thy described the content. Everything written above is unofficial. Plus, Digital copies have not been mentioned anywhere, only a DVD copy. As for the BD-Live bonus features, if Disney chooses not to put them on the disc, simply keep your old Fantasia box set. I for one care about the presentation of the film itself first and foremost, and I know when these hit that they won't disappoint in that regard.

I was making a generalization about the worthlessness of digital copies. they usually like to do those for some of their releases. I will hold onto my Fantasia box set. I have a feeling the old commentary tracks may go missing. I think One DVD edition of DUMBO featured a great commentary track by John Canemaker and the version afterwards nixed that track.

So this is a question for those of you in the know. It seems as though there hasn't been an official announcement for these films yet and people are sort of shooting in the dark here. So my question is when does Disney usually post up official announcements for their releases? To ask it more clearly when do they announce the date they will hit store shelves? Needless to say I am excited for these films even though I can never get through fantasia in one sitting.

They usually announce them ahead of the previous one--
Just that there was so much of a mixup over last spring's title (first Fantasia, then Dumbo, then we didnt' get anything), that the traffic jam caused confusion.

I would rather buy a 3-BD set: one disc for Fantasia, one for Fantasia 2000 and one for bonus features. No DVD for me, thank you.

I'll have to try BD-Live on the PS3 and see how the machine handles BD-Live content. My Sony BRD allows you to download the trailers and content, but you need the BD-Live site to activate them.

Well, all the more incentive to take care of the Fantasia Legacy disc from 10 years ago.

The Peter Pan disc prior to the Platinum Edition featured Roy Disney and Canemaker and a lot of surprise guests. It was terrific. I don't know if they made it to the Platinum version or not.

There is also a commentary track on the old Sleeping Beauty disc that wasn't even announced or advertised - it featured original song demos and a sharper point of view than one would expect from a Disney-sanctioned commentary. The Roy Disney/Mickey Mouse commentary on F2K's version of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" is also amusing. Donald Duck shows up on "Pomp and Circumstance". Cute stuff, in keeping with the pleasant, happy ethos that seemed to enthuse F2K.

Hey guys,

just wanted to let you know, that 'Fantasia' and 'Fantasia 2000' are now available for pre-order on the german amazon-site. In Germany, we just get two single blu-rays, each with an extra DVD of the movie. Don't know, maybe it will be the same in the US, let's hope not!

PS. Sorry for my english, I'm working on it.

re "Wow that really sucks that they are going to be only downloadable via BD-Live. Basicly Disney can remove acess to them at anytime they see fit. I dont like the idea of that"

And also, Disney make a deliberate effort to block acess to their BD live outside Region A, meaning that international customers can't get them. UK Disney BD's have a BD live option on the menu, but we get greeted with an access denied message if we click on it.

As far as i know Disney are the only company who block BD live, and i can't say i have much respect for them for it.
....Or leaving the original sound mixes off our versions as well.

A one day registration is $150.00

That sounds exciting, I'm not in the area and not sure I would pay $150.00 to see the screening but I wonder if anyone will review the film/ presentation of the restoration.

Also I really hope the Fantasia BDs aren't bare bones esp after talk of Fantasia World and extras that were previously discussed and now not so much mentioned. This is becoming 2010's POLTERGEIST release. (Hope Not)
