Default PS3 Outsells Wii In Japan

It seems the PS3 has outsold the Wii by over 20,000 units in Japan!

Here's the story.

Quote:
For the week ending November 11, Media Create figures put PS3 sales at 55, 924, while Wii only managed 34,546.

This is great news for Sony, whose sales were probably helped along by the recent release of Dydnasty Warriors 4 - the latest in the mundane hack-'em-up that those guys seem to lap up.

The PSP did well, too, with over 58,000 sales - just 20,000 behind the DS with 78,000 sales. Could this be a turning point for Sony? Here's the complete list of hardware sales in Japan for the week ending November 11:

* DS - 78,884
* PSP - 58,964
* PS3 - 55,924
* Wii - 34,546
* PS2 - 9,043
* Xbox 360- 5,817
* GB Micro - 708
* GBASP - 211
* GC - 69
* GBA - 4
Things usually happen in Japan first and then spread abroad. Could this be a sign of things to come all over the globe?

I don't doubt it. The PS3 and Blu-ray are somewhat of a symbiosis (excuse my spelling if it's wrong). There are people getting into Blu-ray because of the PS3, but there are a few people I know who are considering a PS3 because it's a great and cheap Blu-ray player. With the new 40gig version Sony will be taking off worldwide.

This is good news. The price cut is helping. The added emphasis of BD playback is going to win parents' approval too.

Sweet more money lost, wake me when they can sell it for a profit or actually sell some games.

I saw a comment on digg that said "wii production must have been down this week." LOL

That would be about two or three years down the line when they can shrink the PS3 to a smaller size. The PS2 is a cash cow now but at 1 year after launch it was still costing SCE money.

That's happening now with R&CT and Uncharted.

Your ignorance amuses me young one, where have you been, great games are out fot it now & we're not getting shoddy ports anymore except for the pepostrous HL2 orange box & why in the HELL would you care if they made a profit, your just there to enjoy the product & let them deal with their finances, your not a shareholder are you?

Kick ass news!

The Wii is more of a curiosity in my opinion, there are hardly any games out for it in comparison to the 360 or PS3... I think it will have a somewhat shorter life than other consoles.

Why would you bother writing this unless you wanted to provoke a fight? This forum is Blu-ray and PS3 all the way. After waiting a solid year for sales to pick up steam, you have to piss in the cornflakes.

Go troll somewhere else. Honestly, just go and try to find a place where you can learn to be tactful by not shitting in the person's house you enter.

The whole entire notion that a console has to be sold for profit has been discussed to it becoming moot. The PS3 is predicted to have an extremely high attach rate. With games like Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Assassin's Creed, COD 4, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, sales will pick up.

You may want to revise the sales numbers, they should look more like this:

Code:
Hardware - This Week | Last Week | YTD | LTD
1. NDS   -    76,084 |    78,884 | 6,037,183 | 20,042,862
2. PSP   -    65,609 |    58,964 | 2,310,547 |  6,842,676
3. PS3   -    39,178 |    55,924 |   883,746 |  1,341,304
4. WII   -    36,230 |    34,546 | 2,896,660 |  3,816,303
5. PS2   -     8,855 |     9,043 |   667,628 | 20,822,487
6. 360   -     6,525 |     5,817 |   195,241 |    459,943
7. GBA   -       262 |       923 |    50,165 | 15,348,244
8. NGC   -        38 |        69 |    10,341 |  4,179,809
These numbers are Media Create numbers, the numbers you had were from Famitsu.

For some reason that article says Media Create but they are mixed up with the two. Here's the link for Media Create in case you want to change the op.

So that would be 3 weeks running then? Though the gap has closed somewhat

Can't believe they're still selling Gamecubes, do they still make games for it. I've got 2 of the things (1 purple, 1 black) but they haven't even been switched on for about 2 years!

Ninty's probably already working on the "Wii Lite"

2nd week in a row actually. They love GT5 and even the Prologues do pretty well over there, so in 3 weeks time that gap should look even bigger. The fact that it's outselling the Wii at a much higher cost and without very many AA games just goes to show that it's on it's way up and just a matter of software titles hitting the market.

Can't wait to see FF numbers
