Default How do I capture a jpeg image f Video ?

There are times I'd like to capture a still image (jpeg) from a DVD movie. I don't know what I'd need to accomplish that. A special software program ?, a technique ?. Can anyone provide assistance and procedures ?

Thanks,

Jim

Do you have a computer with a DVD player? you take a screen capture or there is software to do screen grabs depending on your OS/software player.
I use Video Lan Client (VLC). Can be configured to take it at the raw size (480 x 720 or 576 x 720), or at the fake 4:3 and 16:9 shapes, (or at the correct broadcast standards' ratios, if you know how).

Yes, my laptop has a DVD Player built in. I just don't know the 'how' to capture an image (a frame) and save it as a jpeg image file, copied to a CD-R that can be shown later on my DVD player at home, that can display jpeg images. My DVD player at home does not display GIF images, so I have to capture the image I want, save it as a jpeg file, then display it.

i know it is very rudimentary, but when i used to do this (been a while) i'd just hit the print screen button. this would copy the screen image to the clipboard and then i'd just paste it into a photo program and save. not sure if you can still do this, but i don't see why not.

Jim, for example, if running Windows and PowerDVD, theres a camera symbol button on the control panel. When you use it you get the screengrab saved as a .bmp file. Any good image editor should open it and Save As .jpg and let you adjust compression level.
