It's actually hard to compare. Even "The Fifth Element," while futuristic and covers similar issues (like overpopulation, crazy living conditions, etc), is substantially brighter and slappier than "BR." I think the next closest thing would be "Dark City," since both films are dark and moody.

Otherwise, I think "BR" compares better to film noir movies like "Chinatown" or something.

And right now, it's got me thinking about various anime pictures like "Ghost in the Shell" (which would go really well with it).

I found it interesting to see one time. The narrative helped explain certain things (like more background information, more about the investigation and how Deckard came to certain conclusions, and what Deckard was feeling from time to time). It helped the plot slightly, and I guess it would "connect the dots" a little better. But I still feel the film was great without it.

Really good Martial Arts film. It's not a typical one, but something more meaty in story and scope.

I'm Reed Fish(Netflix)

Film:3/5

I watched this via stream because Jay Baruchel is in it. After watching She's Out of my League I wanted to check more out by him(not that much) but he is on the rise and he is a talented actor.

Anyway this is a good film entertaining but nothing that would make me want to buy this ever. It is a rom com but it really wasn't that funny, it is more of a serious rom com.

It's only 1 1/2 hours so it doesnt take a long time to watch. I'd recommend watching it.

Black Narcissus (Criterion)

"A Superior to all is a servant to all"

A test of faith, religion, morals, and will power is what these nuns are up against in this strange new environment that they have chosen do their Order's will. Will these temptations and trails get the best of them? Of course in every group of people you have the strong willed, weak minded, and Curious.

This film is a overall masterpiece and reminds me more of a modern "The Seventh Seal" and the performances these ladies delivered was nothing less than Perfect! Direction was amazing and of course the story caught me by surprise. Watching this film i was ready to rate it a 4.5/5 but as the story progressed i could help myself in rewarding it with a 5/5. This has to be one of the best films i've seen when it comes to the test of faith.

Highly Recommended

^^^ I thought that one was an excellent film.

Borrowed from the library: “The Man Who Knew Too Much.”

Probably one of the more thrilling Hitchcock thrillers I’ve seen. From the start, it establishes a compelling mystery as the characters unwittingly expose themselves to a foreign environment filled with strangers. It drives a gripping story; one filled with suspense, strong believable characters, explosive drama, and palpable political intrigue.

Acting is excellent all around. Photography is good. The film uses some interesting locations and setpieces. Production value is decent. It’s a classy film overall.

My only complaint is that
[Show spoiler]they never explained what happened to the main bad guy. You know, the head villain in the embassy who wanted the PM dead. Perhaps it’s not important for the main focus of the story (that being Jimmy Stewart looking for his son), but I half wonder if there’s a sequel out there. There could be
.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 4.5/5)

A Blu-Ray on this would be nice.

Followed this up with "North By Northwest."

For a while, I considered this to be my favorite Hitchcock film. Now that I've seen some of his other work, we'll see if that's still the case...

Unlike other Hitchcock films, this one is less about mystery and atmosphere, and much more upbeat and adventurous. It reminds me more of a James Bond film, for it has action, suspense, comedy, romance, political intruige, and everything! I feel that some parts drag a little, but most of it is exciting.

It helps that the film has a good story populated by likable characters. Acting is decent for the most part. Photography is excellent. The film has a lot of interesting locations and setpieces. It is a classic.

4.5/5 (entertainment: 4/5, story: 4.5/5, film: 5/5)

The Blu-Ray for this is nice. The image is very clean, with virtually no dirt, print damage, or anything. I didn't even notice much grain or noise, leading me to wonder if some amount of noise reduction was applied. Some of the faces and settings did appear soft. However, details are still strong, the image is decently sharp, and the color/contrast is excellent. Sound quality is good.

PQ: 4.5/5, AQ: 4.5/5

A Knight's Tale

I really like this movie. Very fun watch.

Heath Ledger is pretty good and his "servants" are a great cast to have together, great laughs there

The modern music bugs some people, but the only one that annoys me is the part with Low Rider playing. I just don't like that song.

I actually like the beginning when the crowd is singing along with We Will Rock You

I pretty much agree with that. I haven't seen this in a while. I'd probably buy it sometime down the road if it ever got cheap again at a time other than Black Friday.

Bought from one Amazon seller. The experience was horrible. Will never do it again regardless of whether they are cheaper or not even though I know there are likely some good sellers out there.

It's worth it to me, one of my favourite movies of all-time, at least among the "sword and sandal" bunch.

A Knight's Tale is definitely a pretty entertaining movie for me as well. One that I will likely buy at some point, but I am in no hurry at the moment. If it was a more dead time of the year for releases and it was cheap, I would grab it. I have seen it on sale multiple times before, so it will happen sometime.

Bottom line.

Triangle story > Inception story.

lDlisturb3d, let it stew for a couple weeks and watch it a second time.

-first viewing!!! ok, first sober viewing (SV). I think I watched either this or Aliens in college, but don't remember anything
-incredible horror film with Hitchcock-like suspense:
[Show spoiler]we only see the Alien for what? 5 times for a total of 6 minutes?? Perfection: the remaining 1 hour and 54 minutes of the 2 hours is ALL SUSPENSE, with ALien sightings every 20 minutes or so...paced perfectly

-I guess the standard interpretation is humans are protagonist, trying to get home and ALien is antagonist, but you could easily see it in reverse:
[Show spoiler] (1) ALien and alien eggs are all happy and content on their planet, harming nobody
(2) CUrious man can't help but open up the eggs and invade the Alien's private space (if you were teh ALien, wouldn't you defend yourself????)
(3) Alien understandably defends themself
(4) Man brings Alien onto ship (even though stuck to dude's face, remember: how did he get on the dudes face? dude was invading alien's space)
(5) Alien is now reasonable to assume they're prisoner on ship and again, should defend themself
. Just interesting to see the film a different way
-Holy wowsa Weaver's butt shot at 1:47 Nice body, what was she? 25?
-Can't wait for this blu, fantastic horror film. I'd consider it more horror than sci-fi.

Knowing is a good film (3.5/5). I loved the end and most of the script, but as many have said, this film goes in the "really really wanted to love it, but couldn't" category. Most people loved the direction it was going, but it lacked something. I can't quite put my hand on it.

Dark City on the other hand...is pure perfection. I can't even put it in words. I'm getting goosebumps as I type this.
