Exclamation PSP media - games vs. films, etc.

i recently bought a psp as im having to do 1-2 hours travelling on the train/bus a day and so far i love it. ive already got over 12 movies and 2 games and comparing it to anything else its so much better. the picture quality is also amazing for such a small device. so anyway my question is

where did the psp go wrong?

You said why already - 12 movies, 2 games. Most people use the PSP for homebrew and as a portable media player rather than games. The console is actually selling quite well as a result, but the games aren't.

Just because it didn't sell as much as the Nintendo DS doesn't mean it went wrong. It sold a lot and it is still selling well.

It has sold 25 million compared to the Nintendo DS' 55 million.

The Xbox and the GameCube didn't sell as many, and I don't see the 360 reaching that number either!

So it's a matter of opinion whether it was a success or not, but bare in mine it was Sony's first attempt in a new market for them.

As a FYI; Fry's has some $5.99 UMD movies.

I have a PSP and enjoy it....I have about 5-6 games and the same number of movies. I have also downloaded some pictures and music to it. I also have one of the external speaker units which really magnifies the sound.

I do have one question though regarding the headphones. The pair that come with the unit are not very good as they are not that loud, especially in a noisy environment such as a plane or crowded room. Does anyone have a suggestion on a good pair of headphones that will either reduce external noise pollution or have a separate noise amplifier bulit in? Very interested in getting something like that, but don't want to break the bank. Thanks!

The hardware is fantastic... just no killer apps. That's finally changing for the better.

I've had my PSP since the US launch date. I bought WipeOut and Lumines at release and didn't buy another game at all until this last October. Of course, in October I picked up 5 games and plan to get another as soon as Final Fantasy: Crisis Core hits US soil. In case anyone is curious, the 5 games were Jean D'Arc, Final Fantasy Tactics, Disgaea, and imported both Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II.

exactly:

look at it this way...

1) the PSP is Sony's first time going into that market with such a great market share as Nintendo has with good reason Nintendo makes great HANDHELD game systems. and right now the PSP is 100% a great handheld system.
the fact that it has sold about HALF as many as the very popular Nintendo DS is very good. and right now the PSP is selling games like FF: CC has done very well in sales...

2) selling 25 million systems already in under 4 years is not the greatest but still Quite a bit in the sheer number of units in the consumers hands. now take to the fact that there is 10 years support for the PSP it still has 6 more years to go come 2008. on top of that the PSP gets more functions added via firmware..remote play, RSS feed, PSP CAM SUPPORT,more game demo's to download on to your Memory stick flash drive. a number of these functions were not included when the unit was first released. but are now..and thats a good thing it increases the value of the unit.

i know it sucks that it didn't catch on more. i love my psp. you can do so much with it. i think that the psp went wrong because it doesn't have very man fun games. and when it did start getting fun games, it was too late. another reason the movies didn't really catch on as much is because (i've heard people say it) they can't play the movies on anything but the psp. they would have to buy their movies twice. they would much rather buy a portable dvd player so they can watch them on their home system. like i said i love my psp though. i have 12 games and 8 movies for it. one thing i wish the psp had is a right analog stick. it'd make it much easier for shooter games.
