I had this problem when Rat came out. Knowing my kids, I opted for the SD version. They have watched this like every day since it has come out. If I purchased it on blu, we would be fighting over the TV. SO, yea, $10 isn't that big a deal, but if you only have one blu player are you stepping aside every night so they can watch it? I don't think so.

Nah...

HSM will be run TIRELESSLY over...and...over again on cable and satellite ad nauseum!!

The age range for this are kids who listen to tinny MP3 and low-res iPod video.
They could give a rats ass about HDM.

sounds to me like you shouldn't be wasting money on dvds, but should invest in another blu-ray player remember toshiba gets money from dvd.

Disney is one of Blu's key assets. For many of us here we can wait (though sometimes it is painful) for the last few HD-DVD only titles by Warner to be released on Blu-ray. Also, it is just over a year till the Paramount / Dreamworks exclusive deal is over, so, again, more patience. That just leaves Universal. But just think if you are on the HD-DVD side, like HD video, and have family, the one studio you can't do without, and which is providing exceptional titles is Disney / Pixar. I know a few HD-DVD diehards, and finally they are buying a PS3 mostly for Disney / Pixar movies. The crack is starting. I am patient, and i see no incentive like that to get me to buy a HD-DVD player, no matter how cheap!

Why am I going to spend another $399 so my 5 and 2 yr old can watch blu on a 27" TV? That is DUMB untill they hit the $100 mark!!!

I have a great 50" samsung DLP 1080p with my ps3 for the bulk of movie watching and game playing.

Until the format war is truly decided, there is no reason to invest in a 2nd player unless money isn't a factor for you.

I already have this movie pre-ordered.

I liked it... my family liked it, and I'm the youngest of the bunch...

Watched it on DirecTV in HD...

I saw the beginning of High School Musical 2 on the flight the other week and OMG had to switched it off after the first song
But I hear that it's a big thing in the US and if It kills HD-DVD then OMG even I might buy a copy lol

But what is this thing i read a few weeks ago about Disney being one of voters and voting for the 51 gig HD-DVD disc to proceed. I'm concerned that Disney was just waiting for something like this to come out to start producing movies for the red camp too! Please say it ain't so.

Not to sound stupid but could a child really care if a movie is in HD or not. My daughter loves her movies even though some are still on VHS. Honestly I fail to see how a movie mad for kids is going to have impact on things. Anyway just my opinion.

Kids grow up and continue to love Disney movies. The Lion King came out thirteen years ago, so many "children" who enjoyed it upon release are in college now.

Nope, my six year old wants Blu only...She has a running tally of the Blu titles we have and reminds me we need more. HSM2 will be in the mix too.

I only have one television in the house which I have all three of my playstations hooked up to (even though I only use one). Like yourself I have no need for a second player. plus this being a musical, the AQ would be nice on blu. My kids don't care if it comes on SD or blu, but since the blu is more resilent, it makes more sense.

Belive it or not,

My daughter has been exposed to seven brides for seven brothers, sound of music, Chitty Chitty bang bang (a great gift to give some one you don't like) and others.

HSM is not that bad (it is bearable), it is hundred times better than watching barney and teletubbies over and over
and over and over and over and over and over and over.

I have NO doubt that HSM in blu would look great. But just because it looks great doesn't make it a great thing to watch. I peg this title as having a very high replay percentage for its target market. Hence, BUY the SD version so they can watch it over and over on the TV that I am NOT watching.

i think what he is saying is that if its going to be used a lot its going to get dirtied up and scratched up and then you got to buy a new one, this doesn't happen with blu-rays as they have the super resiliant coating/. so your cost advantage just went out the window and you have a lower quality product. but i agree that if you don't want to see this 5 times a week, then buy if for them on dvd and let them watch it on a small tv, they will never know the difference.
