[QUOTE=mr.hidef;2499584]So after reading about all of the HORROR stories about the 2006 SXRD's optical blocks going out.............Mine is starting to go. Can anyone please tell me about what deals SONY is doing as far as UPGRADING their customers to V,W, or Z series flat panel LCD's?. I was told that their optical blocks are in short supply, so they are upgrading folks to flat panel LCD's..........HELP!.........[/QU
sony fixed mine for free call them they will send you to a service center near you it took 2 days to get mine back

the same was true for me when i had mine changed years ago. then i had a lamp changed and it only got better, almost double what you had to say! and it's still going strong.

Can you posts some pics? It may very well be the dreaded green blob (or other) issue is starting to surface. Do you see those very dim green blobs when viewing a solid white or light gray background?

My XBR OB issues started out very faint and it was hard to notice (if at all) on a normal image but the issue was definitely noticeable in images with white backagrounds. The issue was enhanced when watching tv in a dark room at night.

However, some users have reported being able to see the issue better on a dark black/blue background.

I was watching "The Road" last week and noticed that there is now a yellowish tint on the right side of my screen. Its a half circle as tall as the screen, but doesn't go quiet to the edge. Anyone see anything like this before? Also, my set has been making a weird, low-volume sound that can best be described as sounding like a distant car horn (me and the wife thought that is what it was for the longest time).

I think my Best Buy waranty is still good, so I'll be calling them up soon to and get them out for a repair - though this may fall into the "Lemon" policy so I might end up losing the set altogether. It will be sad, but a 3D set would be nice

Josh,

I was having the same issue with the yellowish tint, except it was on the left side of the screen. It started a several months back. I called Sony and they got me in touch with a local service center and in a little more then a week I had the optical block replaced under warranty. The only reason it took as long as it did was the service center had to order the part.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/new...&template_id=1

check out the link some models are still being covered until the end of this month. Not sure about the weird noise.

hope this helps

Default My SXRD OB is bad also, 1 question about Sony's offer please.

We had our optical block go bad (green blob issues) on our rear projection Sony SXRD KDS-R50XBR1 50 inch television.

So Sony is going to sell us the KDL55EX500 for just $225.00

The money is not a issue but I need to know if as far as picture quality goes, how will this 55EX500 be compared to the Sony SXRD that I have?
My hope is that I will be upgrading, as far as picture quality, with the 55EX500 and not going backwards.

It will be greatly improved. The 120hz will keep the image smoother, and the blacks are much better.

My optical block was having issues on my Grand Wega Sony 1080i tv a few years ago. Luckly i was still under the extended store warranty and they fixed what the tech told me would have cost a ton of money.

the users manual says that wen this tv is running, it may make cracking noises cuz the body is expanding, but mine seems very loud sometimes, and it dosent stop making noises no matter how long i watch it
can be very annoying wen watching a movie at night w/ low volumes

anyway to lower the amount of noise
a couple screws loosened somewhere maybe?

Best Buy is here today repairing my set. She's getting a new optical block... again... I'm hoping with the new block and spare bulb I can get at least two more years out of her before I have to send her to electronics' heaven.

My baby is reborn!

best of luck Josh, i've had my set for going on 6 years with one optical block and one lamp change. the OB was changed about almost 3 years ago but, slowly but surely it's starting to fail again. very faint yellowish/greenish fade, ever so slight on the center of the screen is appearing. people don't notice it as it is so faint but, i know it's there, it's really noticable when there is an all white background like snow or desert sand as it causes a faint color change along it. if the OB last until next year i may just go ahead and buy another tv but i won't pay to fix it. i did have mine under warranty for 4 years and got the block and lamp changed under that. I also have a spare lamp so if doesn't get any worse than it is (and you really almost can't see it) i'll keep it through another lamp change but, if the OB really kicks in to where family and friends really notice it and i can't stand it, to electronics heaven she goes...

i will tell you that after having the OB changed and about a year later having the lamp changed it really did look like a brand new set and in fact it looked even better than when i originally bought it.

keep us posted buddy.

I'm rooting for my SXRD to hang in there until a suitable 70+" plasma or led display is marketed. So far, so good, but I am becoming increasingly paranoid - whenever I see a white background, I look for tinges of yellow or other discoloration. It's too bad, because I still haven't seen a TV that I like better.

i fall more and more in love with my tv everyday, and knock on wood, i am a lucky person who hasnt had any problems with my set yet
from the day i hooked it up i loved it, and its gotten even better cuz it got nice and broken in, and i found some calibrated settings on the web, got into the service menu to take off the overscan and position the picture correctly
im going to change my bulb one more time, and then get rid of it
the only down side to these sets, are the black levels are not the darkest, but it dosent bother me, i can only notice it wen im watching a movie in pitch black and i can see the different black levels in the black bars, good black level sets, the black bars will just blend in with the darkness of ur room and all u have is movie

They emailed me a copy of my receipt and tech charged my service plan $1000! The last time the optical block was only $350... the price has gone up substantially. The problem is gone, so I'm a happy camper, but I honestly think that if Best Buy would have offered me a $750 gift card towards a new TV, I probably would have taken it. They could have saved $250 just by making that offer. Oh well, I'm glad see's still around!

$1000 with a service plan? How much would it be without a service plan? If my SXRD ever hits the skids, I may just have to abandon it. I wish a manufacturer would market a decent (and reasonably priced) 70+" display.

Don't suppose you could provide me with a link where you found out how to get rid of the overscan? I couldn't find anything on google & it's been driving me nuts ever since I recently found out about it.

The service plan covered the $1000 charge. That is the amount the tech charged the service plan. I didn't pay a cent.

Go to I have a defective sony tv on facebook and speak to Scott Fuentes or Sara Kepler...they are a specialty team which handles only the sony optical block issues. They will offer you an upgrade, but will most likely try an persuade you to pay.
