I'm not sure if this will help or not, but Vaio's have a similar problem, only difference is Vaio's use HDMI rather than DVI.

If you have a 720P TV, change the display settings on your laptop to 1280 X 720; if the TV is 1080 set the settings to 1280 X 1080.

That fixes the display error on a Vaio with a Blu drive, not so sure if Acer has the same exact problem though.

...and also, be sure not to be running your BD player program while plugging it in.
