Default oblivion-goty edition, shadows=bad?

i wanna get this game today, but somebody on ps3 forums said the graphics are bad in this version, like the shadows are jagged? is this true? he said its better to bye the oblivion4 then get the expansion pack. i really dont feel like spending all that money on 2 games so can sombody confirme this for me? does it that bad? if at all.

Have you checked IGN or Metacritic. I have to tell you that it sounds like B.S.

While I can neither confirm, nor deny, why would someone change source code or the engine, and in doing so, make the graphics look shittier?

If you don't already own Oblivion, just buy a used copy and get the add-on. Honestly, if haven't played it, take advantage of the fact that the old version is cheap and be satisfied with the 60+hours of gameplay.

If you are still wanting more, buy the upgrade. I found after I was done Oblivion, I couldn't pick it up. It is a gigantic game without Shivering Isles. With the expansion it is the longest game out there.

EDIT: http://www.metacritic.com/games/plat...shiveringisles

Plus I am sure you can get a used copy of the old version for $20. I think that is the main reason. Some people want to upgrade and they are willing to get rid of surplus on the cheap.

I don't have the GOTY version, so not sure how the graphics compare. I can't imagine them being worse though. I agree with the previous poster, pick up the old version for $30 new (or less used). I guarantee you that you can put 100+ hours into Oblivion (no expansion) and still have more to do in the game. I personally have about 40+ hours into the game and I'm positive I'm nowhere close to the end of the main storyline, though from what I've read you can do it in 20 hours or so if you don't explore all the areas.

If you want to pick up the expansion, you can do so at anytime (Buy the disk or purchase from the PSN), might even drop in price after some time.

What you do is buy both the original (better used) and the shivering isles bd. then put the shivering isles disc into your PS3. It will ask for the original. Put that in, afterwards it will ask for the shivering isles again. Put that in. Once you do that, you will never need the original again so you can sell it back to gamestop. Viola, you've saved money, as opposed to buying GOTY edition.

Default Oblivion aspect ratio

One comment on the original edition -- not sure if it's the same on the new one -- is that in 480p mode the aspect ratio is wrong, it puts out a stretched 4:3 rather than a 16:9 image. (This might matter to you if like me you can only see 480p or 1080i and not 720p.)

I looked at some 720p screenshots and the image seems correctly formatted at that res.

Hello there.

Matt from Bethesda Softworks. Just wanted to let you know, checking with our developers, there should be absolutely no difference between Oblivion GOTY and the original PS3 release of the game.

Of course there isn't. It's just more internet hype that people pick up and run with without thinking about it.

Yeah, they just suddenly made it worse for no reason.
