Default Batman: Post-Nolan

Since Nolan has said the next Batman movie will be his last, I thought it'd be more interesting to speculate and I suppose wish for the next take on Batman.

I'd love it if Zack Snyder got to do The Dark Knight Returns, if only because I can't believe nobody ever actually just adapts an existing book. That and so no future movies will borrow from it and we'll get something new.

I'd also really love to see Nightwing and Tim Drake as Robin. I think the whole franchise thing has kind of limited the character(s)/stories on film so far, I think more one-and-done's in different eras and styles could be more interesting.

What do you guys want?

I would like to see Zack Snyder do DKR as well; frankly any Batman movie by him would be cool.

I would also like to see an expanded franchise with Nightwing (starting with the first Robin). I would like the series to go in the opposite direction that Nolan took it. I want to see fantastical villains and scenarios. The comics are still gritty and grounded with crazy villains. I would also like to see the gray suit with the black cowl and cape (or even the dark blue ).

Zack Snyder is an easy pick and would do well with Batman but here are a few others i would not mind maybe seeing them get the chance. I also don't want the next person to base it in reality like Nolan did. I love what Nolan has done but the nest guy needs to guy for the crazy unrealistic villians.

Marc Forster
Luc Besson
Adam Green- I know he is a horror guy but maybe he can branch out.
David Slade- When he is done with the Twilight stuff

Nolan's batman is enough for me, I wouldn't mind the character taking a break for awhile after he's done with it.

Nolan has set the bar too high for Snyder or anyone, IMO.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say it's All Star Batman . . . it was a collaboration between Jim Lee and Frank Miller.

I don't think so, yes he set it very high but i'm sure someone else could put a different spin on it and make it just as good. I love Nolans Batman but imo Burtons version is pretty much just as good. I don't want to see the next guy take it in the same realistic direction as Nolan. I want to see something totally new and different.

Well I'll openly admit this is not my area, since:

(1) I love Nolan, and
(2) I'm not crazy about comic-character action flicks (I prefer his other work).

Nolan's Batman Begins is probably my favorite, and I really enjoyed it, which is unusual for me. I think Snyder is ok, and own 300, which I think he wrote, but I felt the script was weak, even though the action kicked major butt! my 2 cents

re: the Burton version. I liked that too. Nicholson was perfectly cast.

I agree... I really liked the Burton films. In fact I rate Batman Returns as one of the best Batman movie ever made.

Actually while I love Nolan's take on these, I think Snyder would be able to take us deeper into both the Batman character and the Bruce Wayne character and maybe Gotham as well. I wouldn't write him off too quickly, guys.

I'd like to see a Snyder interpretation, but not for quite a while after Batman 3 is made.

Ah....I see what you are after. Then Snyder could do something here. But it needs to go in a totally different direction for it to work.

I would definitely like to see a film go deeper into the character. Nolan's films give motivation to the characters, but they seem very plot driven rather than character driven (if that makes sense). There was a really good episode in Batman: TAS the delved into the character; I think it was "I Am the Night".

Same here! Returns is a great Batman movie. Very very well crafted with all the duality that goes on in it.

Yup, that's Frank Miller's "Goddamn" All-Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder. Such a waste of Jim Lee's talent, IMO.

Back to the movies...
Can we not compare previous work out of context of future hopes? Then this thread will turn into every other Batman thread and it gets old. I've made my opinions clear before, but it's time to look ahead. Batman has been around over 70 years and has gone through many different phases in that time. Let's face it; there will never be a definitive Batman movie. There just won't. Nothing wrong with different takes on the character. ...OK, except for Bat-nipples. I'd really like to see some live action movies similar to the DTV movies they've been doing. Based on a book, different continuities, etc.

And vegeta88, I'm totally with you on the grey/black suit!

Agreed on both count. TDK is a masterpiece and I don't think there will ever be a Batman movie better than that (even by Nolan himself).

Well they seem to be more about the story of the characters rather than the characters themselves, yes that seems a bit confusing but honestly a Watchmen style Batman would probably put up TDK style box office numbers and maybe even push for film of the year, something TDK could not do.

I'd like to see a live-action Batman Beyond film franchise.
