No matter what i play, the sound never changes it's setting. For example. I have the ps3 connected through hdmi. So when i put in any blu rays, any ps2 games even, even regular dvd's, no matter what i put into that ps3, even if the movie or game or dvd only has dobly digital let's say, the receiver will always stay at the direct setting. I did exactly what u told me and set it all exactly as u stated. Yet as long as it's coming through that hdmi cable through the ps3, only direct comes out. I thought it was supposed to change to doubly for doubly, dts if the movie is dts, etc. Also, there is no display showing multichannel on this 905 onkyo either. Did i do something wrong here? I paid sooooooooooooooo much money for this and i just want to maximize this all as i have a 10,000. complete home theater hd system here in total and it doesn't feel like i'm maxing it out u know. This new 905 is supposed to be the new elite of onkyo so i don't get it. Thanks man

Not sure im understanding your question? are you trying to use different listening modes? hit either the "THX" or "SURR" button on your remote...(I would use the THX modes)
