I still haven't seen it...i like the directors first movie, Hatchet though. I'll probably wait till this movie comes to cable.

Just watched:

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

Love this movie, saw it in the theater and it still has the charm today as it did back then. Most have seen it, if you haven't and enjoyed the series...the movie is great.

Juno 4/5
PQ 4/5
AQ 4/5

After reading Ebert's review, I finally decided to buy Juno. I managed to get it in a double pack for $8.99 and sold Bride Wars for $7.50 without even looking at it.

I was pleasantly surprised. I can't stand the things that pass for comedy these days, preferring instead something with some intelligence and respect for the viewer. This had both and I enjoyed it immensely.

J. K. Simmons is always good, although his roles tend to be small. I had never seen Ellen Page act before and was dismayed when she was touted for the lead in the Millennium Trilogy. Now I'm hoping she gets the role, even though I'll still buy the Swedish version as well.

I thought Page was brilliant in this and I liked a lot of the things that happened in the story. The brief reference to Sonic Youth, my favorite band, was a bonus.

This is something that could grow into a 4.5 or a 5 on repeat viewings, as Amelie did for me.

Hard Candy 4.5/5
PQ 4.5/5
AQ 4.5/5

Continuing my investigation of Page's previous roles, I thought I would give this a shot. I was even more impressed than I was after seeing Juno.

She was 17 when she made this, playing a 14-year-old. The plot isn't quite believable, but she was extremely good in the role. It certainly kept me on the edge of my seat.

The presentation is a lot better than I expected considering the low-budget.

Believe it or not, I have never seen Inception. I thought I would wait for the Blu-ray. I've been avoiding the reviews, but want to see it because Nolan directs and DiCaprio stars. Now I've added Page to the list of reasons to see it.

Yeah you toO! Nice comparison to Open Water -- I actually dug that flick (seem to be the only one in the Western hemisphere who did ). And yes -- the comparison was limited -- this was far better.

Hehe, she was just lashing out. She liked it in a deleted scene.

I guess it is just noise. But I still love most of their stuff.

I love Juno. It's still one of my favorite blind buys.

The role in the Millennium Trilogy was already given to somebody else a while ago actually. I really like Ellen Page, but they got somebody that looks more the part.

You misunderstood. His attitude was that of a true killer! He didnt play around with the kids and if he did it was in a very dark way.

Looks like most other folks have been thoroughly captivated by it, so you should feel the tension...

Whoops, I forgot to mention that it was rather bleak, especially as it got towards the end.

Didn't realize they went through so much trouble making the film!

On the next viewing, I might appreciate it more.

Great review!

Thanks Al.

And if you get pulled over later, tell the cop where you left it. By the time the cops are done there, they will have forgotten all about it.

Rocky - 4.5/5

One of the best sports films of all time. With the right material and direction, I think Sly can act pretty well. I hadn't seen this since I was a kid so it was fun to revisit this one. I had no idea that
[Show spoiler]he lost in the end, though he ultimately won by getting the world's and Apollo's respect and of course, getting Adrian's love.
I've never seen the others (except for #6) so it'll be fun to go through them all this winter.

No Country For Old Men - 4.5/5

I saw this when it was first released and thought it was good, but maybe not my cup of tea. Since then, my taste and knowledge in film has evolved drastically and I really liked it this time.

To anyone that has seen this film, I highly recommend you read this response to Ebert's review of the film.

http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...TERS/607994909

Exorcism of Emily Rose - 4.5/5

I love horror films if they're well done, but don't see many because most of them are garbage. This is a court room drama with a lot of horror elements and it's done very well. Jennifer Carpenter is fantastic as Emily Rose, a sweet, innocent, small town girl who becomes possessed by demons.

The Blair Witch Project - 4/5

Pretty well done for a horror film, let alone a low budget one. I thought the 3 main actors did a very good job. I would have liked to see more creepy footage and less of them hiking, arguing, etc. but it also adds to the confusion, chaos and the "they are f**ked-ness" of the situation. The last scene was very well done and a great ending to the film.
[Show spoiler]We never see anything! That's why this is one is so creepy because it lets the viewer's mind do the work. You constantly have this image of what you think is gonna pop out in any moment, but it never comes. This is how a horror film of this type should be done, with no reveal. There can be great suspense, but if the reveal isn't handled well, the film go from great to crap.

The last two movies I saw couldn't be any more different. Machete and The Passion of Joan of Arc. I was a little disappointed with Machete but I still enjoyed it 6/10. While the latter one is simply a masterpiece 10/10.

I watched Demon Knight on Cinemax HD, which looked pretty good, actually the best I've seen it. It's such a dark film - but everything came through very nice. I hope for a bluray sometime soon.

EDIT - I also forgot what a quick wit and great actor Billy Zane is. He really nailed his part. Awesome job. Saddler did a good job as well. Honestly, my collection feels lacking without this movie.

Frozen just doesn't look like it'll appeal to me. I didn't much care for Open Water 1 or 2. I may just rent it and watch it, but movies like this really hold no replay value for me (yeah i know I'm generalizing, but based on the review on this site and others, I think I can make an educated assumption )
