My LaserDisc player is from 1989 and at the time only composite connections were available. My TVs have gotten bigger and bigger, and the picture just isn't that great anymore. Does anyone know if they made some players with S-Video connections, or even better component connections? I'd like to find a used player, and that would be a big help.
Yes, I know this is old stuff. But it's fun to dust the movies off once in a while and watch them. ![]() Regards! |

Yes they made them but the component will not send the signal for the LD only the DVD. This holds true with the 919 that is still being made by Pioneer.

i believe most of the pio elite ld players of that era had them. i would google around to be sure. i have the pio elite cld99. you can still find them from time to time on ebay but they still are fetching $600.00+. they retailed at the time for $2500.00. also remember that to get dolby digital (ac3) you would also need a ac3 demodulator for use with todays receivers and probably a scaler to make the picture even watchable above 50". blu ray has really spoiled me.

I believe this was implemented as standard later on in the game. I'm only familiar with Pioneer or Sony models, so type in Pioneer CLV or Sony MDP on any search engine and it should give you what you need. You could type the same thing on eBay and it will help as well.

Keep in mind, even if a laserdisc player does have an S-video output, the picture from the disc is still less than that of a DVD. There's only so much quality you can get of the disc, and it will probably be a little disappointing.

You can still find a ton of LD players for sale on Ebay. I picked up a decent player last year for $15.00. But DVD and Blu-ray have spoiled me, I ended up giving the player to my day who only has a CRT television, he thinks the LD still looks good.
Btw, I have about 200 LD's including every Star Trek episode, does anyone know if there might be some interest if I sell? |

Head off in the general direction of eBay... There is even some Betamax for sale. When my LD died I just upgraded my favourite titles to BD. Now I'm upgrading to BD.
