Popular native 1080p projects @ Projector Central.

I am currently looking at the JVC DLA-RS1U, Panasonic PT-AE2000U, Sanyo PLV-Z2000 and the Sony VPL-VW60 to replace my Z3.

I would really like a Sanyo as my Z3 has been brilliant but the review on cnet isn't that great http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater...-32727075.html

I've never read a more informative site on projectors that projector central.
CNet has pretty good reviews to be sure, but if you read the projector central review and it sounds good, I wouldn't hold back based on CNet.

(I got a Z5 just last year... and am seriously thinking about getting the Z2000.)

Actually, it's quite good. Very good for a model under $3,000. Great zoom shift, picture is quite sharp. It's also a blast to play PS3 games on it though most are at 720p, but they still look great.

Such movies like Cars and Pirates of the Caribbean look amazing on it. Not to mention that it supports HDMI 1.3 specs.

You should check out Projectorreviews.com...if you like information, each review is about 5 pages long and is separated in categories, it's definitely my favorite place to read reviews.

Well if you are a DIYer and have some free time you could always build one, thats what I did, I spent around $1000. I built one using a 1920X1200 laptop screen, it isalso HDCP compliant, and accepts hdmi, components, rca, s-video, and cable tv.

Here is a good example of what can be done:

this is mine and i really like it.

got it from projector people also.

have it projected onto an 80" wide screen, looks great. some brightness issues when i turn more lights on in the room* as noted in the reviews you'll see when you research it, but incredible bang for the buck.

* i have it ceiling mounted in my basement; unfortunately some of the basement lights are just a little bit offset from the projector's beam, and those really screw up the image (like, duh). however, the lights in the bar alcove more to the right hardly interfere with the image.

Wow I like to think of myself as being technical but building your own projector thats a bit nutts for me!

I have read good things about the Epson plus my cinema room (or as my gilfreind likes to call it the living room) is totally black the screen doubles as a blackout for the window.

Just out of interest how much of a jump in quality is it going to be from 720p to 1080p? My screen is about 82" and we site 5 meters away from it

when i switch between resolutions by turning 1080p off, it's a very noticeable difference on my epson projected onto an 80" screen.

The Panasonic and Sony models you listed are both good units from the research I have done. When I go 1080p I am leaning towards the Panasonic currently.

It's not really hard to build, after reading alot through the forum I linked. There is a software tool that will tell you the distance to place everything inside the box, how big the screen will be, and how far back to place the projector. If you don't feel like building a box there is a guy who will do it for you, and the same guy will also build the box with everything in it except for the computer screen. One good thing about a DIY projector is the bulbs cost about 50 bucks and last around 10,000 hours.

There is a big jump from 720p to 1080p. I started off using a 1280X1024 17 inch monitor and then went to the 1080p screen and there was a huge difference. My screen is 108" wide and I have it sitting back 14 feet from the screen, it still makes my eyes go everytime I play a blu-ray.

Either way you go you will see an improvement.

The Epson looks like a great bit of kit but its hard to find for sale in the UK (I found one site but it was £2800)! Same with the Sony I cant find it for less then £3000. However the Panasonic PT-AE2000 is available for £2000 I have recently spoken to a guy who owns the earlyer Panasonic 1000 model and he rates it very highly so im swaying more the Panasonics way

I am taking a serious look at this Sanyo PLV-Z2000 based on these reviews...

http://www.projectorreviews.com/sany...2000/index.php
http://www.projectorcentral.com/sany..._projector.htm
http://www.hdtvexpert.com/pages_b/SanyoPLV-Z2000.html

I have had many good years out of my Z3 with zero problems...at the price point of the Z2000, I think I am going to try and get it for an in home demo.

PS - I really hate the white case though as the ceiling in my HT is black.
