Well that would be nice if this is true but you cannot count on anything.
Perfect situation - Warner Bros goes exclusive and Bam! Batmans Begins with a new encode Beter PQ and AQ along with Pip and Web Enabled Content then Bam! Matrix Trilology with all the Bells and whistles as well. This would be a great start to a K.O. and the end of Dud. But this is also some Friday wishful thinking. |

Warner has always seemed to like Blu-ray more but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a done deal. Anything can happen although I don't think you have to worry about Warner dropping Blu-ray. |

Warner realizes where the majority of studio support lies which also obviously includes the biggest studio of them all Disney. Also, they have seen the majority of their titles sell significantly more on our format of choice Blu-Ray. They are viewing everything under a microscope and we are obviously winning this war. I hope by January they come over to our side, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to milk both formats for as long as possible before siding with us or them.

Yup, nothing new in the article. Same old rumors. What would really be news is if someone found out Warner had already stopped/changed production on HD DVD. If they were really going to announce in January (one month from now), then couldn't someone find an actual production change by now at the manufacturing level?

Pardon if this has already been brought up (there are a lot of posts on this thread
![]() WB has known for quite some time now how well certain titles sell in the other format exclusively. Many of the "lesser titles" such as Casablanca don't do particularly well at all over there. Here, though, in addition to all of the Blu titles they've already sold (and outsold red) across the board, a sale like this gives them a really solid indication that--if they went Blu exclusive--these are the kinds of numbers they can look forward to on a steady basis, regardless of the title or genre. In these early days, most titles are certainly not going to sell like 300. They are going to sell more like Omega Man or even Hairspray. Warners may make a huge bundle on 300; but they can also make an accumulating bundle on serveral other, lesser titles, when they produce them only on one format (Blu). And if they only have to produce one format, it doesn't cost them as much to run out far more lesser titles over a given period of time than when they do both and neither format sells hugely (though Blu still outsells red by several thousand copies). -Greg |

Might be Warner just putting the word out on the street that they need more bribe money from somebody...anybody right around now.

When you really sit down and think about it, there is no reason for them not to go blu-ray. With some of the comments Warner has made recently and the fact that if they went dud things would drag on indefinately.
If Warner honestly wants this to end going with blu-ray could honestly do it. Anyone with a bit of knowledge could see that will mean a massive sales boost and faster price drops for blu-ray when people finaly feel comfortable enough to buy. So many people are just not interested in gambling that they have no intent on buying till there is a winner.(or super cheap dual format players) |

As long as Toshiba holds the lower priced players I'm not going to pay too much attention to anything in the works for blu ray right now. Once blu ray has a bulk of the studio support, they can shore up the rear with a lower priced player and just go for the kill. Until then, studio support is key. Face it...what good is a cheap player if the movies you want to watch aren't available for them? Ask any HD DVD owner.... |
