Since when is 50 "potentially" larger than 30?
it's potential in that not all BDs manufactures are 50GB (some are 25). Also, if HD DVD really did get 51GB production going and usable (unlikely), that would negate BD's space-advantage (though not its bandwidth advantage).

What I *really* want is 100 GB BD discs. BAD. I want my HD TV shows (LOST???) on 100 and 200GB discs... I loathe disc-swapping when watching TV programming on disc.

Agreed. Altough this little quote is coming from somebody other than a "New Member". This is coming from a big wig. I am pretty jaded now about "Warner is going exclusive" threads. I am putting NO stock in this until I see an announcement.

Plus one of our own very reliable insiders has also chimed in about it.

Hey guys, seems like there was some sort of news today...

I have been getting a few requests to make a response to this latest round of rumours, but the advice coming from my superiors is to say nothing.

Sorry.

I will point you in the right direction though.

Just to add a biy more juice.

Does anyoune remember when Pento-Man spoke of "Lemon (Rumor) and making Lemonade".

Could there be a hint in his latest comment back to this statement

quote Pento-Man
"Well, you actually get a two-fer there.
They also serve to *squeeze* other studios to determine really how Unified they are.

I guess Thread of the Day just has to go to..................."

Any thoughts

I believe it's inevitabily going to happen. I know I said that during those 2 SA0CD trolling fiasco days, but this is a Business Week article with credible sources -- in addition to our own. On top of everything, there's just too many rumors circulating that WB will do Blu. I mean, notice how you NEVER hear rumors about WB going HD DVD?

I try not to overthink Penton's riddles.

I just sit back and wait to see concrete results.

This whole riddle thing reminds me of the movie Jumpin' Jack Flash when Whoopi is trying to figure out the lyrics to the song. Damn. Speak English.

I typically try and be realistic about Warner rumors, but I do get the feeling that if they are ready to go full blu then all of these public comments are being used to ease the transition.

Just a thought.

Exactly. The next articles will start:

"Warner Bros. confirmed today the long-standing rumor that they will only support the Blu-ray high-definition format going forward. They also announced a trade-in program for those wishing to swap HD-DVD versions of their titles for available Blu-ray versions."

Or something like that...

Comments are often "leaked" publically to help work corporate deals.

Remember when the head of Disney railed against Sony for not having 50GB discs ready? That was the same disclosure where he said that they hadn't ruled out the possibility of supporting HD DVD in the future.

Notice how quickly 50GB came on-line and I'm sure Disney got first-pick of replication lines.

After that, not another mention of any pro-HD DVD sentiment from Disney. In fact, just the opposite.

It's possible that in a similar way these comments are being "leaked" strategically in order to work on the psychology of heads at Universal and Paramount... along with negotiations with Toshiba.

I just find it interesting that with the New Line titles, they have not issued any kind of release date for the HD DVD versions coming. I mean, even if it is Six months from the release of the Blu-ray version, they could say something like that, but they haven't. How long do they think they have to wait to release the HD DVD version? Could be a sign, could be nothing.
