This is reported by "Newsweek" which is a a very reputable news source. Hopefully it will be officially announced soon.

That player doesn't need to output 1080p or offer internal advanced audio decoding either... if it has HDMI 1.3 that would be good enough IMO to stream to external devices for lossless compressed tracks.

I think Bill's leads are the most accurate of all (and comport with Robert George's comments, by the way). WB is watching and waiting to see what happens this Christmas season.
Blu boasts 1080p and that is one of the few selling points to purchasing a 1080p HD set...

this player needs 1080p IMO to really make a point..

If it turns out it's news and not rumor with time... then there will be plenty of time to post and dance on the AVS boards all about it...

if not, then it's probably best to keep away from rumor anyway as it can't do anything but incite argument and debate at AVS.
AMEN! Every thread here has to become about AVS . I'm ready to stop coming here because of it. This is Blu-ray.com not avs, let's worry about what goes on here.

Where is the rumor thread at AVS? It looks they've got the place on lockdown over there. Am I correct that they are not allowing any discussion of this at all in any threads?

Wow, and they expect us to believe they are "neutral"?

All caps isn't polite. And I've been banned anyway. I've been reading many of the forums over there for years but thought they were out of line today. Don't know why this particular one got my goat. But I'm also not going to let David or anyone else tell me what I can or cannot do on another web site.

That said, I'm done there on this issue. What more is there to say? They won't let a single mention of this article appear on the site. If anything could confirm their bias more than this I've yet to see it.

I think the fact that AVS is preventing anyone from discussing this issue is very newsworthy. This isn't just a simple case of a flame war, this is a legitimate article from Business Week.

I don't know if that's newsworthy but like anything else: If it were all just a bunch of BS then it merits little to no reaction and it can be shot down with ease.

Strangely not the case here. *shrugs*

No, Dave....you are wrong!! It has to output 1080p..this the huge leap for getting Blu-ray players and people to meet. The HDTV market this year is exploding..and people are putting their money into the higher resolution hands down over the "older" res of 720p.

This is the fine line that Blu-ray has over HD DVD. We need them to stick with this. It is detrimental to the format war, IMO.

can we forget about politness for a moment and just try to look at this with the eyes of reason?

Think of how this looks at AVS... a bunch of Blu-ray fanboys blatantly ignoring the mods *reasonable and clear* posting guidelines to keep rumors out of a "news thread" they want to keep fact-based.

How much do I need to say? If we want to criticize the HD DVD fan-boys at AVS for their childish posting strategies, let's start by avoiding that same pattern ourselves.

I'd love to see this rumor about a $299 Sony BD player (possibly a current one) marked down to that price for the holidays. That needs to happen.

The link is in my AVS sig. Just the link, not the quote. I agree with you, but I don't think the reason is a bad one. There are serious HT enthusiasts there who probably bought HD-DVD on the first week before Blu was even out.

Now they've spent over a year trying to defend that ultra-eaerly adoption. I think a lot of them will be relieved when Warner goes Blu and they can throw in the towel.

So if the BDA does bribe...eh-hem...intice WB with millions of dollars showering down from the heavens, what will this do to the other studios already Blu exclusive and have not received any cash payments. Do you think they will want a piece of that pie? Could that upset them enough, if they don't get anything, to create an adverse reaction? Just a thought...
