When DVD hit the market a decade ago, there was an immediate demand for players capable of playing all discs, regardless of region. Player mods started from replacing chipsets in the players, and eventually moved to pressing the right sequence of buttons on the remote.

Somebody, somewhere must know of someone who can do the same with BD players. The strange thing is that I have NEVER come across an article or thread on a forum about this subject, and all google searches I can can think of are coming up blank!!

This would be most useful for all non-US BD enthusiasts, as it would increase our selection of titles tenfold, and also for those across the pond who want to import titles from Europe or Japan.

Any and all comments will be gratefully received.........

HELP

Surprised myself too. All the PS3's out there and nobody has cracked it or found a way to remove the region coding.

Thanks.
I ordered it this Summer but SendIt still has it out of stock. Will send an email to them and ask why. Then I get it I will check the region coding. However, this site list it as region locked http://bluray.liesinc.net/ The source is DVDTimes but they were wrong about several other titles from Entertainment in Vido so it still can be region free.

I´d like to know that too. Has anyone actually tested it? The back says "A" but other titles have been "A" before and region free.

I would like to know It too.
The first and second US POTC were ABC region.... So the third won't be FREE zone ? Why ? For exemple, POTC 3 has been already available in France before USA. Why make a POTC 3 only Region ? It daesn't make sens.

Send me a Region B PS3 and I will tell you.

I have to agree, it makes no sense to region lock the third installment after the first two are region free. Seems asinine to me. Then again, they did say all new titles will be region locked. Who knows - until someone in another region gets a US disc and tries it out.

The PotC 3 US version is indeed region locked.

Movietyme Blog has the final proof.

I know its not out yet but what region does everyone expect WAR to be when it comes out in the US early next year. It does not have a release date here in Australia. even tho it was called Rogue Assassin.

UPDATE
I checked http://bluray.liesinc.net/ for lionsgate release history and its seams to be pretty even for US titles playing in region b players. However i did notice a trend for older titles being region free and new ones region locked. Is this correct meaning that WAR is likely to be region locked?

I guess so. Lionsgate have started to use the policy to have day-and-dates region coded and catalogue titles region free. Same policy as Disney and Sony have. But you never know the correct region coding until the disc is tested.

Default Harry Potter 5 region locked?

I just wanted to order HP:OotP from Amazon.com and it said it was region locked, but when i looked on http://bluray.liesinc.net/ it says it's region free.

Has anyone tried it on a region B PS3?

All Warners releases are region free. It will work on a Region B-player. Amazon is not so accurate. Take a look at the region settings on Amazon in one week and you will see Harry Potter listed as region free even on Amazon.com.

Yeah, what ever happened to showing the back of the box on amazon? They really suck sometimes because they go with some copied and pasted information without actually reading the box. On most websites it lists the audio an the disc as dolby digital and the HDDUD version as having DD+, even though the Blu version has PCM 48/24 audio (kind of important I'd say).
