What the HD-DVD boys don't understand is that outside of AVS and other similar websites, HD-DVD really doesn't exist for many consumers. Every store I go to, the BD movies are picked over and HD-DVD movies are full to the brim and look nice and neat. There are almost no player to be seen in consumers eyes, as Toshiba doesn't have any prime real estate in any B&M retailers. I think Value Electronics might be the world's larger seller of HD-DVD players, and they are internet based.

The HD-DVD camp needed all of the help they could get at CES, and shot themselves in the foot by announcing a prototype 51gb disc that will probably never see the light of day for movies due to hardware constraints. They announced a new player that cannabilized the sales of both of their players. They still have no new hardware on the market, only some cheap Chinese players, and Onkyo.

Whether people want to see it or not, it's pretty much "blu" skies from here on out. With the news over at Universal, if their CEO does in fact get canned, and the decision is made to start releasing on BD, the format war is pretty much all but over. I can see it now... "Well, Mr. and Mrs. Customer, with this blu-ray player, you can get any movie that your heart desires. That HD-DVD player over there only gives you access to a few movie studios. Which one are they going to choose? Price isn't even going to be a factor at this point. BD players will only be a few hundred more and offer them features that feel they need.
