And most importantly, the general population has been convinced now by all the marketing that DVD is digital, its extra features, angles, languages, bloopers, etc.. are better. Fast seek time, discs last very long, and quality doesn't degrade like tape (ex HD-VHS). Sooo.. what advantage does Blu-Ray have, other than size, and the quality.. the benefits of which (for average Joe) will undoubtedly be debated.
All the points you pointed out applies to Blu-ray, and even more so for fast seek time. Why? Blu-ray have a higher transfer rate then HD-DVD, which could potentially bring down the seek time even on a large capacity disc such as blu-ray.

And apparently, the time it takes to download 1-2GB isn't enough of a detterent, since recently I read somewhere that such downloads account for like 1/3 of all internet traffic... Yikes!!.
Why else do you think populated cities have a constant bandwidth usage of over 300Gbp/s ?

Not long ago I had a computer with 2.5GB drive and 12x CD. Back then, I could have archived most of my stuff on a few discs. Finally Blu-Ray will allow the same. BUT, there is the BIG problem of piracy.
The thing with blu-ray is that it's aimed to tackle piracy. Why else do you think they use a different encryption key for every 8 bit (or byte, my memory seems to be blurry on this). If one key is cracked, the Blu-Ray forum can just use another encryption key for future made Blu-rays... Granted, there will always be crackers out there that cracks ever single key that comes out, but at least it'll give 'em a work out when every new movie that comes out need to be cracked .
As with anything else in life, there is always ways to subvert the main system....

Next generation consoles will supposedly come with Blu-Ray drives, but what for? What game could possibly take up multiple DVD's.
2 DVD's cost > 1 Blu-Ray's cost
What's more wise for game publishers to go with? 2 DVD's doesn't even come close to the storage capacity of Blu-ray, yet it cost more to produce then 1 single blu-ray... The logical conclusion is that Blu-ray is definately the prefered format for next-gen games.

Alright, that pretty much ends my ranting for today. Good day to you too .
