The Game: it was okay, but the ending was just horrid and ruined any reason to watch the film again. i watched it for the first time about 2 months ago, but this has got to be one of the dumbest endings to a film i've ever seen. mind is blown how fincher went along with the ending 2/5
Panic Room: i think 4/5? but haven't seen it in many years, but i know it never really 'grabbed' me like other films.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: 2/5 one of the most overrated films ever. i think jhiggy said that BB was given a bunch of nominations because Zodiac got jipped the year before, and i completely agree. Zodiac is the better picture (imo) on every level.

just my opinion of course on his other work. really excited to see The Social Network, but really pissed they're (Hollywood) is remaking The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and if i was fincher, or any director, i would have said, "the original is hands down a great film. we don't need to remake it just so people who hate subtitles can see it. F them" but again, that's just me

true. i think i worded my post wrong. i think i would go off of what you said by "just a catalyst for the characters. kind of an excuse and a stage for showcasing the extremes and church and business" and i would say that choosing Plainview's as oil was a great choice because it really is, still to this day and maybe even more-so a cut throat business. if Plainview would have grown corn, the extremes wouldn't have seemed so necessary or logical (and that would be funny and odd to see such a tough character growing corn ). i think that's how i meant to write it out but failed lol

awesome that you're gonna watch it again soon and that my review helped in that regard
have you seen the rest of Anderson's work?

Wasn't me that said it got nominations because Zodiac was snubbed---Zodiac was a very good film but had no business being a best picture nom because it wasn't THAT good. Button got some nominations it deserved, such as the cinematography and directing (as much as I dislike Fincher, he did very well here) and some it absolutely didn't deserve (best picture, best actor).

I need not continue my argument about Fincher being unbelievably overrated.

$5.50 for me. Century/Cinemark Theaters is $5.50 for the first showing of the day and there are at least four Century locations around me. 3D blockbusters are really beginning to irritate me though. At least with Avatar they didn't stage the cinematography to flaunt the 3D aspect (unlike Megamind, RE: Afterlife, or Saw 3D). I even saw Megamind in 2D and it was still painfully obvious (things randomly thrown at the screen). NOT "cool" in my book.

That blows. I've been in that situation before but not with a Criterion title. You should sell the DVD online... you could make back the B&N sale price for sure.

Haven't seen ANY of these. I am so excited Amarcord is getting the blu-ray treatment though.

How is Amarcord? Critics seem to be split on it, with some considering it arguably Fellini's best work and others thinking it's a laughable film.

Its a good idea. We had a movie of the month thread, but if faded away.

yeah, movie of the week = shorter, so it might survive.

personally, i think "movie of the day" or "movie of the hour" would be super-sweet!!

think about it:

-"idisturbd award" for "mid-movie" review ("stop posting + watch the f&* film)
-"gandalf award" for "WTF reply post" reivew (huh? chewbacca?)
-"bearcat award" for "longest" review (huh? a new thread page already?)
-"jhiggy award" for "merciless" review (take no prisoners)
-"squid award" for "least quantitative" review (no 5 ratings, plz)
-"diesel award" for "most use of smiles" review
-"DJ method award" for "versatile review" (Sin City , Marienbad, its all great!)
-"Tbizzle award" for "realistic review" (Frostbite? huh? )

Haha I think that can be shared. I'm a realist and I always look for unrealistic aspects of a film, especially when pertaining to firearms and/or the military. You and I both expressed our dislike for The Hurt Locker

i wouldn't call it a stupid idea, just one that would be tricky to pull off.
i don't know how much free time everyone has, if everyone has access to netflix / the movie in question, and how would we choose the movie? and we all have pretty vast tastes, so eventually some of us would be watching a movie we might not have any interest in and then, it will feel more like work than fun imo, but of course not all the time.

not to mention if some of us have already seen the film chosen, what will those people do? watch it again? or would they watch something else?

sorry for all the pessimism, it's just in my nature

[Show spoiler]1. The hand issue. She was keeping it in her jacket pocket. Smart. Then she finally fell asleep (actually passed out from exhaustion) and during that time, removed her hand and placed it on the bar. Not unlike when you fall asleep on your left side, but wakeup on your right side.

As I've said before, this isn't something that you just sleep through. Same with something chewing on your hand or your hand being set afire, your body doesn't just shut off your sensation of pain when you're asleep. When one of your extremities is exposed in those kind of temperatures, it HURTS. Plus, being in those kind of temperatures it's highly unlikely that they would have passed out, let alone slept through the night like that.

2. The leg stretching issue. They would have gotten up multiple times to do squats and wave their arms out of sheer natural response. No manual or training required. When you sit in a jet for 8 hours, how long before you get up to stretch your legs because you FEEL the NEED? They would have done some type of moving around to generate warmth and just because it feels good to stretch.

Haha, I wouldn't call this "the leg stretching issue". It should be called "the critical need for movement to generate warmth and not freeze issue". It really has nothing to do with stretching, although that's an obvious plus. The fact is, zero movement in this situation, as depicted in the film, would yield frozen people. Funny how the title of the film is a blatant contradiction of that fact.

3. The cable issue. When faced with almost certain death, a person can rise to a pretty big challenge. The boy would have been able to endure the pain of torn up hands in order to LIVE. "Hanging" is a lot differnt than "Lifting". Yes he was a weakling in gym class, but even if a person cant do a chinup, they can just hang there for a LONG LONG time. Plus, the kid was fit as a fiddle. He'd have no problem doing what he did. The pain would suck, but it's totally doable. Wraping a jacket around the cable would make it too bulky and difficult to hold on.

I agree, the human body and mind can be pushed to do amazing things in situations like this. However, being that he's the weakling, it's not too believable that he'd be able to make it across those cables. You said hanging is a lot different than lifting, which is true. But hanging is also very different from shimmying, which utilizes most of your upper body. And it's just hard to believe that his hands would really work properly at this point, being that he's freezing and that his hands are basically filets. Wrapping a jacket or a sweater around the cable would've solved the hand hand slicing issue. And no, I don't think it would be too bulky to hold on to. Snow jackets are mostly composed of polyester and gore-tex and aren't very thick.

There you have it. The FACTS. If you guys want to carry on the debate with your silly OPINIONS, feel free. But, as The Baron of All Things Factual, I have spoken, and the masses can now rest, properly educated.
Speaking of Frozen, I forgot to rebut this post a while ago

Bolded points in your spoiler.
