Nolan has said on repeated basis he wasn't trying to make something overly complex or puzzle-like, he wanted to make a thrill-ride of a surreal heist film with some James Bond thrown in for good measure. I think the film is a brilliant character study within a large scale action thriller. An epic 2 1/2 hour therapy session if you will. It's brilliantly written, directed, and produced, with great performances. Trying to philosophize the film is a lost cause because unlike Nolan's magnum opus, The Dark Knight, it's not a philosophical film at all. What it is, is an intelligent, original psychological action thriller about a man coping with guilt and grief. The Dark Knight was a zeitgeist film through and through, with enough socio-political commentary on things like terrorism, the Bush administration, torture, homeland security, and the state of society at the time to fill essays upon essays. Inception, while utterly entertaining, exciting, and fascinating, is not that film. I loved both to death. But reacting to the hype and fan base of either film instead of taking them on their own terms is silly. The same can be said for Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, or any other large scale, well reviewed and well received film. One day, people will wise up. But until then, internet hyperbole, both positive and negative, reigns supreme.

Could you enlighten me if you will... but where in TDK hinted of the Bush administration? Or in what way?

He's probably talking about the sonar/cell phone thing where Batman was spying on the entire city's phone calls. Jonathan Nolan has said this aspect of the story came from the comic books, not from any attempt at political commentary.

He did indeed say that. But I think it's still a point of the film that rings true with Bush's homeland security policies i.e. The Patriot Act. In any case, I'm not here to discuss politics, I was simply making an example of why the film had a lot if zeitgeist-y appeal.

Other than the case, totem, posters, booklet, etc. What is the difference between this release and the regular retail release? Is there extra contents (extras)?

While I haven't seen Inception yet, I do agree with you on that. Just using these as an example, I have blind bought movies such as Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World based on how many people here and Blu-ray reviewers were saying how good they were. I ended up loving both movies even though I had no interest in seeing either when they were coming out in the theater, but I didn't love them just because they were well received.

I do think people declaring a new movie the best movie of the year (or ever) right after they see it is silly. If a person did like a movie that much, sure, but one should wait to make either declaration until they've seen the movie more than once. Avatar is one of my favorite movies of all-time, but it is based on the fact that I actually like the film that much, not just because it made over a billion dollars. I know this post might come off as me thinking I'm better than people who just fall into the hype, but that's not the case.

I know this is continuing to keep the thread off-topic, and for that I apologize, but I wanted to get that off my chest.

I'd say $22.99-$24.99. I'm sure someone will post the ad's soon enough

Best Buy has an exclusive, so I'm not sure if they'll be selling both or just theirs

Not yet. The ads for that week should be leaked on here by next weekend (give or take a couple of days).

Seeing as there are two editions listed on the US website, it's safe to say that both the standard edition and Best Buy exclusive will be available on store shelves. No details on the exclusive, but right now, there's a $5 premium over the standard Blu-ray release.

I was hoping to find more info on the Canadian website, but Canada has an exclusive of their own:

Geez, the amount of exclusives/sets is getting ridiculous. I lost count of the number of steelbooks and briefcases that are getting released. I guess I'm just gonna opt for the amaray, my OCD won't get me get only 1... I either get everything or nothing
