Still ultra early for that. I'm sure that the numbers will be announced if positive, but sit back and wait until Friday. Should be interesting.

You'll have to wait at least a few more days if not right til Friday. I don't see it beating Transformers though. Personally, I liked the movie, but almost everyone else I know didn't really enjoy it.

Agreed, but it's been up for pre-order forever. I've had it pre-ordered for months. So, a lot of the pre-orders have been spaced out over time.

If the situation was different, Pirates 1 being in movie theatres this year and now coming on BD then I could see it beating Transformers, not a second sequel of pirates. (Im sure Transformers sequels releases wouldn't do as well as the first did)

I don't know why you can't just accept it as a good direct comparison. They're two movies on competing formats. If it loses, it loses, if it wins, it wins, that simple. I don't mean to take it out on you but sometimes I find it a little ridiculous when people are grasping for straws in trying to prove Blu's superiority. Just understand that Blu is unbelievably better and it will win.

I think its pretty logical that a second sequel that wasn't liked by many fans of pirates wouldn't do as well transformers. Transformers can't get any negative press comparison to the first since it is the first Transformers movie.

I can answer your question without any nonsense: No, it won't beat Transformers.

It'd be nice, granted, but it won't. Bottom line.

(for the record, if for some reason it beats Transformers even by .001%, I'll gladly eat my words )

I also agree, which is what I was getting at in my first post.

What they are saying has nothing to do with accepting Blu's superiority, its just plainly an apples to oranges comparison. I fully agree with what they are saying and can see where your coming from but would have to disagree on this instance.

I know it's crazy, but from what I've seen...Superbad seems to be selling better on BD than Pirates 3...

People loved Superbad. Pirates 3 was by far the worst Disney/Buena Vista release in years, IMHO. It honestly doesn't surprise me that Superbad would outsell Pirates. I've said all along I didn't think Pirates was going to be as monumental of a release as we would like.

We are in the Xmas buying season now.

Big new releases aren't going to be gobbled up by the masses day of release again until after Xmas. Right now people are adding them to wishlists and hoping to get them for the holidays or they are casually buying them for people on their gift list (there's no rush to get it right now as you have until Xmas).

I know I personally have about ten 'must have' BD's on wishlists so people who need help finding a gift have a resource. If I don't have these BD's after Xmas, I will get them myself. But, for now, I wait. Just my own personal example.

The traditional sense of urgency is absent in many ways. I agree with Doby, Pirates AWE will smoke Transformers... But, it won't happen until well after Xmas when the total numbers are added up.

Historically, HDDVD has enjoyed a larger 'surge' buy on release dates than BD. BD has always sustained much higher numbers over the long term with only a few notable exceptions (300 being an example of a 'surge' buy and PE being an example of how the long term keeps on getting longer... still a total mystery to me that one is...wow).

Worse than Home On the Range?

Superbad did less than $170 million in box office worldwide; POTC AWE did $961 million.

I think in the long run, down the road POTC 3 will beat Transformers. A great trilogy. If you have 1 and 2, it's a given that 3 will be purchased.

IMO, Yes. I hated Pirates 3. I won't be picking it up, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

That being said, it will be one of the bigger DVD/Blu releases of the year simply because it caters to a large demographic, but I still wouldn't be surprised if Superbad was right up there with it. Unlike Pirates, Superbad was very well received domestically by both critics and movie-goers. It has also developed quite a cult following.
