@Dave,

Who's Marketingguru?
Someone that talks a lot of shite over at High Def Digest which is what you're doing by suggesting that the Bluray release of T3 will be ANY different than the HD DVD release - they both get the same VC-1 encode and they both get Dolby at 640 Kbps.

The Harry Potter 5 Blu-ray has about an hour more high definition content than the HD DVD and the IME stuff is all covered in the special features.

How you come to the conclusion that the HD DVD one is the better one is beyond me, but to each their own.

Lol.

Dude, calm yourself. No one is talking any shite as you put it. I was only speculating. That is all. You have to admit that Warners first gen movies were not all that great looking compared to some of the newer movies. I didn't see the specs that you posted on T3, BTW. Looks good. I'm happy.

I'm as much a blu fan as yourself.

I kinda hafta agree with Dobyblue, Dustin. I've been reading your posts in this thread, and you're being quite negative, even beyond pessimistic. I think given the history of "new" posters like yourself turning out to be trolling for the HD DVD club warrants such caution. Your "speculation" is on the border of being FUD, and as far as the content on ANY Warner title compared to HD DVD, there should be no noticable difference, because they're both manufactured using the same encodes. Whatever visual difference you're seeing is truly in your head. Now, compare HD DVD's best latest release in terms of PQ and SQ at optimum conditions compared to Blu-ray at optimum conditions, and it would clearly be no contest.

So keep in mind that you're new to the forum, and your words are going to be scrutinized a whole lot more than someone with over 1,000 posts on the site. It's always raised red flags (no pun intended) when a new poster shows up claiming to be a fan but being downright doom-and-gloom with every post. 99% of the time that red flag ends up being duly earned...

If I were on the HD-DVD side, I wouldn't be so sure about that after reading this....

"One thing that may be changing is our strategy. When both formats launched and hardware prices were high, we made a decision to support both formats and let the consumer decide. But now that hardware pricing is affordable for both Blu Ray and HD DVD, it appears consumers no longer want to decide, so the notion of staying in two formats for the duration is something we are re-evaluating now that we are in the fourth quarter.".

"We can definitely talk Blu Ray. We are committed to the format."

Dan Silverberg - VP of Warner High Def Media. ~ Oct 30, 2007.

A correction was made later (not surprisingly), re-affirming Warner's stance of neutrality. However, if Silverberg is stating this in public, imagine the internal memo's. Do the math.

Warner started this 'rumor' themselves.

Trolling for the red side... Now that's a good one.

So becuase I ask questions that apperantly people don't want asked, I'm a troll? You guys treat all your new members like this? I came to this site to learn more about blu ray. I can't learn without asking questions. I don't own (spelling) one DUD movie. I'm not some secret red wannabe insider like some have called me, either.

Their are a few members on this site that have simply answered my questions with a normal response. As such would be expected. But for so many people to accuse me of talking crap and being a secret spy is bullsh!t. I'm simply concerned! I'm tired of people talking trash. I like this site. But this is crazy, people.

I'm sorry I don't have a thousand post yet. Geez.

Outgunned in options, but especially outgunned in popularity. Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and Sharp are well ahead of Toshiba for TV marketshare.

Not to mention that the BDA have maintained the value of a free player, while Toshiba has made it valued at $100-$200.

Haha.. what game is that troll from?

There was quite a lot of doom and gloom when I joined the forum, which was within hours of the Paramount announcement... I was more pissed off than gloomy personally.

Do you guys think the free BD player with TV offers this week are more to fight Bourne or to help with the WB Harry Potter fight? Otherwise the sale would have made way more sense on Black Friday...

LOL didn't even see it. Of course by now the number has changed but thanks for noticing!

Too bad we don't have the evil face, the one used in older IM versions or I would have used it in the paragraph too.

Around here, Toshiba is a distant 6th for TV market share... with those four plus LG being ahead, and Pioneer makes great TVs and has always had a bundle with their BD player, but they're expensive the bundle is over $5000....

Your point about value is good too... "Hey get a Toshiba TV and free $200 HD DVD player! Or get a Sony (better) TV and a free $400 Blu-ray player!"

What are they going to pick even knowing nothing about the two formats?

I just wish LG hadn't gone neutral, I know so many people who swear by them and won't buy anything else... their houses are like LGLand.

For the record, Dustin, no one is calling you a troll for asking questions. It's your statements about how HD DVD looks better than Blu-ray on a Warner title, combined with "speculation" about worst-case (and in many cases, way left field to fanciful) scenerios, combined with a low post count that has people throwing up red flags. Your questions are being answered intelligently, and your other comments are being met with the cautious suspicion that they are because of past experiences on this site. You being a member since May, I would think that you've seen a fair share of it yourself. So don't get overly sensitive, no one is banning you, no one is saying "ban the troll!" like what used to happen at the first sign of negativity, we're all just doing as you: 'asking questions'.

[edit] one last thing: read through my original post again, and no where did I call you a troll. All I did was point out that your line of postings was similar to those that have trolled in the past.

LOL @ the Marketingguru comment.

He swears he's so high and mighty. If he was so smart, he'd realize that Blu-ray is the way to go. I love High Def Digest and their forum but Marketingguru really gets on my nerves. He acts like his word should be praised and he claims he has "high connections."

As an update of the day (Joke of the day), he put in a call to his "source" at Paramount to get the REAL agreement with Spielberg and figure out if Spielberg REALLY has control of which format his movies are released on.

Don't sweat it man. I had the same happen to me about 95 posts ago.

And I wasn't nearly as negative as most of your posts. Just understand the legitimate/reasonable bias of the site and the concerns others here have about FUD and you'll do fine. Things have gotten much better for me in the last few weeks.

Welcome aboard.

in regards to new guys getting so scutinized and labeld troll very quicly here, we need to be careful. we have turned away a lot of blu fans to this site, because they ask a question and we think they are trolling. we need to realize their is a sh1t ton of FUD on the net and a lot of ppl see things from pro-red websites taht say warner puts out exclusive movies just for hd dvd, warner puts extra features exclusively on hd dvd, warner favors hd dvd and people believe it, how many f'n articles were written about that stupid community viewing feature, nothing was written about extras all being in hd for the blu version, to a joe it looks like wb is favoring hd dvd, they are pro blu, come in here and ask why this is, we say they are trolling and get mad and think we are a$$hats. asking questions is fine and until somebody says something like there is no difference between loseless and uncompressed or bitrates, nobody should be labeling new guys trolls, its immature and makes blu-ray.com look bad.
