I'm slowly making my way through this thread and have been reading the various posts regarding "trolls". From now on I'll forward any concerns I have to the administrators instead of posting them to help keep things friendly around here.

Both bits of information were extremely "fresh" and this guy picked it up and regurgitated it that quickly? That leads me to believe this guy is certainly a regular on the HDM forum circuit.

Combine that with statements like...

a) "How come Warner Bros. makes their DVD's better on DUD than it's counterpart on blu?"
b) "Terminator 3 will most likely suck like the other two on blu"
c) "Harry Potter movies are said too be better as well on DUD"
d) Quoting a blog with the Warner email denial
e) Quoting a study by TDG stating new owners of HDTVs favor HD DVD over Blu-ray

Conclusion: marketingguru needs to go back to school and brush up on his Viral Marketing 101 skills. I'll award him half a mark for at least for using a different name on here unlike HDAlien.
Well done!

Do B & M have any importance here? I know that having to carry 3 different formats is a display nightmare. B&M stores want for the time being 1 hd format and sd dvd's until eventually the transfer has been complete.

Three formats are a nightmare when asking any employee does this movie belong to which format?
Carrying two formats is a nightmare, I expect once BR has traction and HDTV is the rule not the exception BB/CC will start phasing out SD DVD, maybe only limited stock of full screen editions right next to the bathrooms. I expect this phase out will happen around the Feb. 09 phase out of analog broadcasts.

How big must your screen be to appreciate the difference between 1080p and 1440p? I know for 720p to 1080p it's almost 50 inches at an 8' viewing distance. Are we looking at needing an 80-inch monitor for 1440p to mean anything?

^Good point.
I think 1440p will be relegated to computer monitors only, for some time at least.
If hdtv manufacturers started releasing 1440p sets now they would have a ton of 1080p sets that they would have to deflate in value like an hd dvd player.
As far as tvs go I would like to see large screen OLED's become widely available and affordable.

1440p will be great for 100" projection screens too.

I have seen BD exclusive studios make up 49% of HDM market (with reference to titles) and articles say if WB goes BD it will have 70% so does that mean WB has 21% of the market?

So currently you can get 70% of the movies on BD and 51% of the movies on HDDVD If WB drops HDDVD only 30% of the movies will be available on HDDVD.

WB's releasing of certain movies only on HDDVD have at least totaled 100k and HDDVD has sold about 2.5 million (BD about 4 million (SI 61.5:38.5)) discs that makes up at least 4% of there total take those away and SI 62.5:37.5, we know they would have sold more on BD but lets say they would have sold the same it SI would be 62.1:37.9. Those titles alone has given HDDVD about 1% more in SI numbers YTD would be even higher. That has to be factoring into WB's decision.

On a side note since Paramount went HDDVD they probably have sold 250k of new exclusive discs if they had been on BD they probably would have sold close to 400k which would have put SI about64:36.

Just found this. Don't know if this is the right thread, but it mentions Warner in it. So, here go's.

US HD hardware sales 3:1 in Blu-ray's favour by year end

US households will together own 948,000 HD DVD playback devices and almost 3m Blu-ray Disc-capable machines come the end of 2007, market watcher DisplaySearch has estimated.

Breaking those numbers down, we get 2.5m PlayStation 3s, 678,000 HD DVD players, 461,000 Blu-ray Disc players and 270,000 Xbox 360 add-on drives, DisplaySearch said via Home Media Magazine.

Add those numbers up and for every living room-oriented HD DVD device out there, there are three Blu-ray machines.

That statistic may well give Warner's home entertainment division pause for thought if it is indeed waiting to see each format's end-of-year hardware sales before deciding whether to back a single format as some industry insiders have alleged it's considering.

For its part, Warner's only comment on the matter has been to state it has "made no decision to change our present policy which is to produce in both HD DVD and Blu-ray".

Newspaper columnist Bob Lindich maintains this statement's lack of a denial or ambiguous language, not to mention the fact the Warner issued it quickly, is a sign that no move's on the cards.

However, Warner's statement doesn't contradict the aforementioned claims, which suggest it's waiting to see the numbers before casting its lot one way or another. Until then, of course Warner is going to maintain its support

This should really make Warner think about exclusivity with the blu side... if they haven't already. Good stuff.

The WW II (Warner Watch) situation.
Many folks asking if I am truly in the loop on this thing and if it is just another one of those rumors like the one started by that AVS member that came trolling around here on our forum a few months ago perpetrating WW I.

Answer –
This current WW is nothing like the crap posted by that troll (which, if memory serves, I shot down in 15min. or so as per your guys’ request for the truth). This situation has substance.

Yes, I’m in the loop, just as I was when Paramount got mounted ………………

Has quill-pen hit paper(s) yet, you ask?
No, not yet, so keep buying those WB Blu-rays this holiday season and when we look back in retrospect on this situation we can all proudly claim that we won this thing truly on consumer merit- so that the red ants never cry foul as other dominos fall successively.
I will try awfully hard to give you guys a heads-up(with an appropriate YouTube link)- even if it’s just the day before any formal format announcement but, I make no promises.
And please don’t hold your breaths for impending news as things take time.
He said wayyyyyyy more than I was expecting he would. There is something going on. There is just too much smoke for there to not be fire.

Exactly my thoughts. One thing that the red fud machine keeps overlooking, and that people who actually think about things from a business perspective is that no matter what the actual percentage of PS3s in current use as BD players, all of them are potential players. WB knows that getting that number up is just a matter of marketing. I also think that they are quite aware that the number is well above the 10 to 20 percent that keeps being quoted as hard fact by the usual suspects.

I've noticed that on top of making made up numbers sound like fact, one of the biggest pillars of FUD has been acting as if those numbers are also totally static for BD.. Unfortunately for these folks, there is this little thing called reality.

Buy Warner BR movies for your family friends that have players, even your boss. Anyone you know that has a player, encourage them to buy Warner movies for Blu-Ray. Buy one just because.

Just noticed 2 Blu texts to 1 red text. 2:1. Lets make it 3:1 or 4:1 for Warner titles.

I think that was referring to Warner's neutral stance changing to exclusive.
