I liked this film. I felt engaged. The amount and depth of corruption in the Brazilian Police Department was stressful, frustrating and fascinating. I cared about all the main characters and the outcome. I enjoyed watching BOPE kick ass...and boy did they.

That said, I cant say I was wowed. It just felt "pretty good".

Definitely worth seeing, but not a buy for me.
Very well made though, don't you agree? I think one of its best aspects is how engaging it is. So full of energy and perfect pacing... you don't want to look away for a second. I hope bearcat's and my praise didn't factor into its failure to impress you. I really want to check out the sequel.

"This ship is our home, This ship is England"

Plot (IMDb): During the Napoleonic Wars, a brash British captain pushes his ship and crew to their limits in pursuit of a formidable French war vessel around South America.

My Take: First in for most let it be known that I'm a SAILOR so my review of the movie my be beneficial on its authenticity. I've heard from both ends about this movie. My fellow co workers say its awesome but other viewer say its either ok or they didnt like it that much. Well for me this movie was GREAT!!!!! Lucky Jack is the man and this is the way naval leadership should be. The movie felt so real and i was engaged the whole time. Even though its not an American Naval film a "Sailor" is a "Sailor" and nothing changes about the life on a ship. I loved every minute of the movie from the opening scene until the emotional ending. I thought Russell Crowe was AMAZING and above all stayed in character every second. I also like how this film shows you the different minds of the military. Lucky Jack is a harden Captain that wants nothing but to win no matter the circumstances while on the other had his friend (The Doc) is somewhat anti military. I really appreciated this comparison. I came into this movie with low expectations but was blown away. This film has also become one of my favorite war films and my ALL TIME favorite Naval film.

Conclusion: Master and Commander shows you first hand the life of a sailor and war with France. Its overall presentation is remarkable. The opening scenes quickly grasp your attention. I want to give this movie a perfect 5 but it didn't hit home that hard. I have no doubt with a 2nd viewing that i will raise it to 5. For now its a 4.5 and my favorite Naval film. If you like history get it. If you like the Navy get it. If you are a sailor of any kind GET IT, you will be pleased on the attention to detail that this movie provides. The drama, and suspense are also top notch and the AQ is ridiculous. Sounds like you're right there with ol "Lucky Jack".

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

4.5/5
Excellent movie. I visit this blu every time I have the urge to go out to sea.

Predators
Film - 7/10
PQ - 9/10
AQ - 9/10
I don't remember what I originally gave this film when I saw it in theaters, but this second viewing definitely improved on the first. My main gripe about the film was the lack of real plot; the idea that the film basically finishes where it started. I did appreciate the references to the original film and the action was still solid. I enjoy it for what it is; a straight-up action/sci-fi.

Gran Torino
Film - 10/10
PQ - 9/10
AQ - 8/10
Eastwood always surprises me with just how great of a filmmaker he is. Between the longshots that make his cinematography superior and his frighteningly excellent plot lines, there is hardly anyone like him in the industry. As for Gran Torino, specifically, this second viewing permitted me to catch more detail to the technical aspects of his filmmaking, instead of the plot, which I view as outstanding.

Argh another one

If you enjoy bad acting you should check out The Room. Quality Z grade stuff that's actually entertaining and doesn't need to play the prejudice card for impact.

Modern Times (Criterion)

Director: Charles Chaplin
Writer: Charles Chaplin
Mains: Charles Chaplin, Paulette Goddard and Henry Bergman

"Classic Comedic Masterpiece"

Plot (Criterion): Modern Times, Charlie Chaplin's last outing as the Little Tramp, puts the iconic character to work as a giddily inept factory employee who becomes smitten with a gorgeous gamine (Paulette Goddard). With its barrage of unforgettable gags and sly commentary on class struggle made almost a decade struggle during the Great Depression Modern Times-though made almost a decade into the talkie era and containing moments of sound (even song!)-is a timeless showcase of Chaplin's untouchable genius as a director of silent comedy.

My Take: This is an amazing piece of work, Charlie Chaplin is a genius and this film is something. No wonder this film holds its spot within movie making history. To tell you the truth i didnt know what to expect from this film. I've never ever watched a silent film before so and all honesty i though it would've been boring. Oh was i wrong I loved every minute of this film. From the outrageous humor to the subliminal messages about Poverty, Work Strikes, Hits on politics, The Great Depression, Ford, and most of all the adaptation of the "machine". Its a brilliant comedy that will keep anyone laughing no matter the age.

Conclusion: This is a Masterpiece and well done. I will never forget this film as long as i have a stable memory. A film that entertains any viewer and connect along the lines of subliminal messages for the more advance viewers. Charlie Chaplin put his all into this film. The sets are unforgettable and the ideals are unheard of. This is a piece of work that any movie view should take full advantage of. MUST SEE BOTTOM LINE.

MUST SEE

5/5

I agree the acting was bad, but i think that was the whole purpose. It didnt bother me at all. I still like Gran Torino and i think the story is amazing.

I know I know. I'm just trolling while I have a spare 5 minutes at work.

Reaction to this film is bipolar which always causes some friction as people like me that didn't enjoy it like to poke fun at you all. As long as you enjoyed it, you don't need to justify yourself.

Last Action Hero - 4/5

Hadn't seen it since I was a kid when it was a favorite of my brother and I, and it's still lots of fun. I can appreciate it more now that I've seen Amadeus and The Seventh Seal
