Buddy, I think you need to give more respect and credit to other people's opinions.
Fantasia is not censored. Only a government official or some other authority acting in a official capacity as a censor can "censor" something. The last time I checked, the U.S. Government has not seized control of the print of Fantasia, nor has a government official removed content on moral, political, or military grounds.

Fantasia is not censored, it has been edited for content by those who own and have stewardship over the negative.

c) Perspective makes censorship ok.

It can. Doesn't mean it always does, or always doesn't. It depends.

I think that is when Dumbo comes out in Antarctica and the North Pole. I think it is going to be delayed for the US again so we can officially be the last place to get it.

Can you post any pictures of the packaging? It's not crucial as I will get it tomorrow, but I was just curious. Does it come in a standard 4-disc case or some non-standard packaging? I need to find a store that hasn't mangled it up too bad with their security cases or spiderwrapped it to death if it doesn't fit in the case.

Thank you. I was about to make this identical argument.

Some people just don't understand what censorship is.

I always find it funny how people who are ok with censorship try to turn the issue into a lexicon matter.

So it was not any official administrative authority who did it, but the legal owners, so then you won't call it "censorship". Whatever works for you.

This is not a matter of the creator regretting and "fixing" some creative decision (which I don't like either, but they are entitled to), this is excising a part of the work so as to comply with some moral restrictions after the fact, just for company's policies and commercial reasons.

This is altering the integrity of a work so as to conform it to politically correct bullshit ("offensive material"? what is that, exactly? You would get different answers from different people. That could apply to ALL films released, leading to alterations to every film release. Would that be ok to you, or only the ones you happen to agree with?)

This is rewriting history.

This is CENSORSHIP, and I find it way more offensive than any of the images deleted. And I would expect that people who care for films preservation –or for freedom– would not find that an acceptable compromise.

Edited for content = censorship

A rose by any other name...

The fact that, according to reviews so far, video and audio quality is superb, only makes it all the more sad that it is marred by censorship.

And if people buy this censored release, if Disney gets the money for it, then how are we ever going to get an uncesored, complete edition?

hmm still debating if I should buy this or not. I remember watching Fantasia in the theaters as a kid when it got re-released in the 80s and my brother and I both fell asleep and afterwards we thought it was one of the most boring movies we had ever watched(probably because there was no dialogue). I don't remember watching it since then or watching Fantasia 2000. I am a fan of animation though and may appreciate it more as I may have a more open mind now than when I was a kid.

I know it doesn't really compare but I did like Wall-E(and more so when there was no dialogue than where there was). And again it probably does not compare since its not even animation and totally different than Fantasia, but I was absolutely bored to death with Baraka(since that one did not have any dialogue either and put me to sleep too). I still printed out the $10 off coupon just in case.

You don't. Disney is never going to release Fantasia to mass markets unedited, with Sunflower intact. Never. Hasn't happened in 40 years. Won't happen in the next 40. Your decision to buy Fantasia or not will not affect that in the slightest, because Disney is not going to use the occasion of a home video release of Fantasia to anger and offend millions of people. Maybe you don't care about that, but trust me, as a company that has always survived by trying to appeal to as many people as possible, the Disney company cares. A lot.

Complaints from completionists? Disney will listen to you, they'll be understanding, and they'll be patient -- but they aren't going to cave on this. Nor should they.

We'll get an unedited Fantasa about the same time we get Song of the South on home video.

I have purchased FANTASIA on every video format available, including LaserDisc! While it would have been interesting to have it release "uncut" I have to say watching the deleted images that were cut from the film (search http://www.youtube.com you'll find 'em) It really seems to pull me out of the sequence a lot more... it seems really out of place... and I don't like censorship of any kind... I own a lot of "trash" film and the like believe me.

before youtube I would have never been able to see the deleted footage, and to be honest after all these years I didn't expect to find it on this release.

I did already purchase the UK release two pack of FANTASIA and I will pick up the US release tomorrow... I just think the real downside of this release is the lack of FANTASIA extras. I still have my old DVD set thank goodness! I already tried watching bonus features thru BD live and I'm sorry Disney that is just cheap.

I have a feeling if Roy Disney were still living FANTASIA would have had a better blu-ray debut in regards to bonus features.

I will say the transfers exceeded my expectations esp on FANTASIA, I noticed animation techniques etc, that I never seemed to see before. The images look so good I had to break out my DVD and laser disc to take a look.

The BLU release is worth it for sure... but I feel true fans of the films got shafted on bonus materials.

The one exclusion that would have brought a little bit more attention to the release would have been the inclusion of the IRWIN KOSTAL audio track.

I need help.

If I buy this, it will be a blind buy for me, so I really dont know weather I need to get it or not.

Does it have any rewatchability value given that I liked almost all Disney classics plus I absolutely love classic music?

I am in doubt as there doesnt seem to be much hype about this release which makes me think that its not that good.

If you appreciate animation and classical music, you will value and revisit Fantasia and its sequel more than once. They aren't as "fun" as other Disney Classics, but there is a lot to take in and even more to notice with this high definition release.

The Irwin Kostal audio track was really decried by critics when it was released. Disney did it so that Fantasia could have a performance that was recorded digitally, but no one was happy with it.

But having said that, there would have been nothing wrong with including it as an alternative track. But I don't think it would have brought more attention to the release, except in a negative way.

If you love all the Disney classics and you love classical music, you may have just found your new favorite movie.

As for the hype, the treatment of this title is highly unusual for Disney. The title was delayed and plans for the disc obviously changed dramatically. That has nothing to do with the film or its quality. If it helps you, Fantasia is one of the 25 highest-grossing films in history (adjusted appropriately for inflation), and was, at one point, the best-selling home video title of all time (surpassed later by Snow White, Titanic, and The Lion King). So Disney releasing it with little fanfare is borderline bizarre. One can only surmise something unexpected happened, but don't hold it against the movie(s).

Thanks guys, I made up my mind, i get it.
Even if I dont like it, this is still a keeper in my collection due to its historical value and almost 100% that my children (once i have them) will like it.
Add to that the 10$ coupon and the fact it will be cheapest close to release and my decision is rock solid.
