That isn't bad! Oh well, still feel like i got a fairly good deal. not quite THAT good though.. Need to do more of this price-matching business.

I wish I had any interest in owning The Sorcerer's Apprentice, but I just don't. It reeks too much of National Treasure which just wasn't my cup of tea either.
Yeah seems like a lot of people didn't dig it too much but i dunno, it was fun. I was entertained by it. I also liked National Treasure though so, yeah.

You're probably right. Been ages since I've seen it.

As for Fantasia: this is glorious BD (haven't gotten to F/2000 yet) and one of the highlights of my collection. Disney are right up there with the BFI and Criterion when it comes to BD transfers.

I watched the original Fantasia last night and was very impressed with the transfer. It had been forever since I had last seen the film and it was a completely new experience; I always get chills at "A Night on Bald Mountain" and this time even more so. I look forward to checking out Fantasia 2000.

Btw, out of curiosity, do you guys watch the original 4:3 view or the DisneyView?

Is BD-Live (and Virtual Vault) on Fantasia 2000 BD accessible outside of the US?

I checked out the DisneyView on all my 4:3 Disney classics so far, but I watch them without it regularly. In a dark room, the art is a little distracting compared to black space.

Canada Problems playing Fantasia

My 2nd Blu-ray disc in the Fantasia 2-disc set won't play in my Panasonic BD35 player but the 1st disc works fine. My player reports it has the latest firmware installed. The disc works fine until I select "PLAY MOVIE" and then the player goes to "PLAY" mode but the screen stays blank forever. Any suggestions?

I have never used "Disney View, I watch them as they were created if it is 4:3 then there are black bars on the sides of my tv, with the lights out I can't see anything but the image, and I only want to see the image, not a distraction of the films intent.

I wouldn't ever watch a film like Gone With the Wind etc with this type of bordering either.

The Snow White and Pinocchio borders were done by Toby Bluth and were so amazingly employed you didn't notice the camouflage blending in.

The Fantasia ones were done by Harrison Ellenshaw (Peter's son); they're too watercolor and abstract, and they...just kind of sit there.
I was waiting to see how the borders would change with Toccata & Fugue, but the one same fuzzy blue border stayed on the screen while the images turned to fiery reds and oranges.
Nutcracker's borders at least changed for each sub-segment, but you have to go back and watch Pinocchio to see how environmentally good borders can blend in--Can't just throw anybody in there with a paint set.

Yep, we watched Pinocchio in Disney View. Overall I had no complaints, it was something different, worth it to give it a look.

So the DisneyView border for Fantasia was created by the lead matte artist on The Empire Strikes Back? Nice. Talk about sparing no expense...

Try calling Panasonic, it may be a widespread issue, or it may be your internet connection interfering with the player and the disc. The discs *did* take a while to load on all three of my players, I can definitely tell you that.

Man, I'm kinda glad that I've had none of these disc playback issues with my P.O.S Insignia player.

Sorry, but a simple check of Disney's BD-Live site will reveal that BD-Live is only available in the US and Canada. And that is rather unfortunate considering the bulk of the extras is only on BD-Live.

Not for minimum wage pay. Department and specialty stores used to hire professionals - people who were trained, knew what they were talking about and who made a decent living. They were never going to get rich but they could live OK, especially if they made it up to managerial level. Some people worked for the same company for their entire professional career.

Those days are long gone. Most retailers hire minimum wage and frequently part-time workers. For those wages (or near those wages), you're not going to get very good people. Even Apple retail, where most employees do have semi-decent product knowledge, especially the "experts", about the most you can make is around $15 an hour and they pay better than most.

Not so fast. According to DVDizzy/UltimateDisney, the "back to the vault" date is actually March 15. (Yes, that's a change from the recent past; for many years the vault door always closed at the end of January.) Still mighty quick, though...

I think what he's asking is whether or not a player physically located outside the US & Canada could access the BD-Live features using a US or Canadian copy of F/F2K. (The US BDs have been confirmed region-free by both this site and blurayregioncodes.com, despite the Region A logo on back; I assume the Canadian BDs are identical.)

Edit: In other words, does Disney control access to BD-Live by IP-address nationality, or do they simply not include a BD-Live link in their releases outside the US & Canada? (Unlike WB, I'm sure Disney does *NOT* use the same disc masters worldwide.)
