Looks like everyone is on to M$ now; I expect they'll be of little concern in this between Toshiba and the BDA. In fact, the demotion of Amir and Michael Bay's comment dovetail nice with this theory, doesn't it?

Thank god Hollywood figured this out before it was too late...
I think we just witnessed the proverbial 'olive branch' offered to Toshiba via the media. Funny how now this one comes out after stating a 336 million dollar adjustment down for revenue had HD-DVD and promotions as part of the blame.

Those Japanese guys love to save face.. wonder if they'll bite.

WB can't jump over to Blu right away, they have to buy the Blu replication equipment. Right now WB does all HDDVD in house since they upgraded their DVD equipment to support HDDVD. The Blu replication is currently outsourced to another company.

I don't think there'd be a whole lot of negotiation... maybe just technological assistance to Toshiba to help them make dual-format players for the next generation? Along the lines of how LG does it most likely.

If Warner goes Blu, I expect a bunch of tiny studios would follow (remember all the ones commenting after the Paramount switch that they had been on the verge...)... how long do you think major retailers will keep stocking HD DVD? Certainly they'll start having a very hard time selling any of it!

True...

Kind of like how Pioneer or Onkyo, can't remember, still offers Laser Disc players.

I could see this.

Tosh has been manufacturing the Cell Chip for PS3 40 gig for awhile. They wanted to be part of Blu-ray since the get go but forced into HD-DVD by MS. That Rough Notes article is a great little history lesson.

No wonder they are helping with the Cell Chip...

Everybody seem to be predicting that Warner will go Blu exlusive these days.
Let us hope that Warner do the same prediction, lol

Isn't Swanni the same idiot who last week predicted a winner in 2008 but refused to say who? Ohh great Swanni, that is so wise and universal! Utter bs.

Listen, I have a single weather prediction for everyday of the year and it never fails. I predict we will have weather tomorrow.

Why do we need Microsoft? We don't. If Toshiba decides to follow BD they follow OUR standards. MS just becomes a barking dog behind a chain link fence at that point. Anyone know why MS would still be an influence once BD wins?

If that's the case, then it could be something that supports our insiders' information. Equipment like that has lead times, and sometimes experts are consulted on purchasing specs., etc.

i am with you on that Gary..but they may not have very much of a choice and start targeting existing Standard build DVD top set boxes, and other devices because they may have too because BD-JAVA is a big direct threat to Microsoft, this realy is not about HD DVD or Blu-Ray with Microsoft its all about HDI pure and simple.

that's the reason were in this "so called format war anyway"
all over HDI vs' JAVA

in a sense only Software wise i posted early today you may want to read this over and come to your own OPINION on the matter :

key points:

Toshiba and Microsoft Announce Plans to Form Advanced Interactivity Consortium
DreamWorks Animation, Paramount, Universal and Warner join IT
and consumer electronics industry leaders to extend and promote interactive experiences beyond optical media to new platforms.

The new organization will also focus attention on ways to bring these advanced scenarios to other services and platforms, including digital downloads to DVD players, PCs, TVs, cell phones, portable media players and game consoles.

All that is is they renamed HDi to Advanced Interactivity.

Anyone who wants to use HDi has to join the consortium.

They will announce it in 1Q08, then they will be total Blu start of 2Q08. That is plenty of time to re-tool.

Cheers

Didn't anyone learn from the last time there was a rumor Warner was going Blu exclusive? I doubt this will happen anytime soon, much less at all. It all boils down to money, and releasing on both means more money to Warner. Until I see this for myself, I don't believe it. I didn't last time either when the 'insider' said that Warner was going Blu exclusive.
