I agree. But, he's an untouchable over there. An NFL quarterback facing a sea of defensive tackles, while allowed to boot the opposing teams quarterback in the balls whenever he feels like it.

Was it just me, or did anyone else notice the lack of an announcement from Bob Meridian, I mean Stuart (too little sleep) on the release of a player. The working day here in the UK is basically over as I post, it is 4:15GMT on a Thursday. No chance.

Meridian made a press release, stating NO player. Grubert is all over it and is showing to all how much of a lie it was to include it in the press release. So much for believing anything out of the mouth of a hd-dvd person.

BTW, theres a new user on AVS calling himself Bill Maridian to make fun of amir's mess. Too funny.

Meridian announcement

Quote:
International CES 2007, Las Vegas, NV, January 11, 2007—Leading British audio/video
manufacturer Meridian (South Hall 1, Booth 20538) is pleased to make the following statement to clarify the situation regarding reports on its involvement in HD-DVD.

“Meridian is a company renowned for state-of-the-art digital audio and video technology, and we are delighted to be working with Microsoft on the development of high-end players. Meridian has for some time been deeply involved in some of the core audio technology in HD DVD and at CES 2007 we are pleased to announce that we have now joined the HD DVD Promotional Group.

“Consistent with Meridian's product development approach, where standards of performance, particularly for audio and video are exceptionally high, product development takes some time, and for that reason we cannot announce any product-specific details at this time."
A rather weak announcement. Almost sounds like Microsoft is paying for the development of a high-end players.

Where do they say they intend on releasing a player? Helping Microsoft develop high-end players is a rather different thing than saying they will release a Meridian branded player.

Amir specifically stated yesterday that he expects Meridian to make a press statement today, but they still haven't done so and Meridian being a UK company, there won't be anyone left in the UK office to make such an announcement, not today at least. As son as that clock hits 5:00pm GMT, don't expect anything.

Well, that was a piss poor announcement, rather like one that they didn't want to make, no mention of any dates, not even an estimate.

Given that the HD-DVD rabble whine on and on about the price of BD players, if Meridian ever release this player they better take a seat before they hear the price. This lot charge more than the light brigade.

I only discovered today that Toshiba manufacture the xbox-360 add on hd-dvd drive for microsoft

Another false dawn me thinks!!!

You didn't think anyone was making anything on them, did you? I'm sure both Toshiba and Microsoft are breaking even on the add-on. It's a pure strategic play that is backfiring.

MS insiders are implying that 150K worldwide have sold. We know about 75K have sold in North America (Toshiba's 175K total).

That's 150K from 10 million installed Xbox 360. Yowsers, that stinks.

I must confess that a few months ago I did toy with the idea of buying this add-on as an entry into HD. Instead I have opted to wait till the PS3 hits the UK in March time. Nothing I have read about HD-DVD fills me with confidence that this format will be around for much longer.
HD-DVD? No Thank you

A classic for the ages from the MS VP:

Quote:
I personally worked with Bob Meridian on this and I can share with you that he and rest of the company is totally excited about being the first high-end company to support HD DVD and being the pioneer in digital A/V products as they have been. And to my knowledge, have no plans to support BD format.
Anyone else work with the most important people in a field, and get their name wrong? (It's Bob Stuart).

Amir's boss, Steve Microsoft, must be pretty embarassed at this point.

Anybody read the latest press release from Meridian. I wonder how many lawyers were involved in parsing that baby.

Does Bob Stuart realize his company is now being promoted with Shinco? LMAO.
