Oh yea, your loathing for the .25 scale slipped my mind for a minute there

It will indeed since the ones right behind it were also scored a 4.5/5 by me.

Best movie to date in the series, definitely looking forward to 4 and 5 now. Most action so far, also loved all the backstory of the wolves and the vampires, not to mention finally seeing the gorgeous Ashley Greene kick some butt. Recommended to all Twilight fans.

I would rate it around that much as well.
Definitely best of the series so far and the ending fight was awsome. Rewatched it many times.

Yeah, exactly.
The effects of passing tall grasses, and the effect that all soldiers are positioned in differrent rows would make great 3D material.

Heck, it is hard to find a scene in that movie which doesnt have at least 2 characters in differrent distances from camera (not talking about differrent groups).

That said, it seemed more 3D even with 2D when compared to bad 3D movies.

P.S. I think its written in the booklet that comes with the Criterion blu ray that says of the new filming techniques the director used to create a phenomenal sense of depth and immersion in the movie.

I have. I was hoping to pick something that wasn't too recent and is available on blu and/or watch instantly, but nothing jumped at me. I think I settled on a good one though

Rewatched How to Train Your Dragon tonight (first time on blu).

I enjoyed the beginning more this time after being disappointed the first time I saw it. But the overall score remains the same instead of going up.

Rating - 4.5/5

12 Angry Men

Director: Sidney Lumet
Writer: Reginald Rose
Mains: Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb and Martin Balsam

"Its not easy to stand against the ridicule of others!"

Plot (IMDb): A dissenting juror in a murder trial slowly manages to convince the others that the case is not as obviously clear as it seemed in court.

My Take: Wow. 12 Angry Men hit me like a freight train carrying 10 ton elephants. This movie has had the biggest single impact in my whole movie viewing hobby. Where do i start? First off this movie hit so hard with me because of my personality. Those who know me know that im a very argumentative person but most of my arguments are based of facts. In addition im always that guy who dares to be little different when the majority says yes or no. (not all the time though). So this felt more like a personal movie than anything and if i could pick out a single character in the film that represents me it would be DAVIS.

On with the movie itself. This movie brings allot of things to the table about a persons own morals, prejudice and beliefs. 12 Angry Men displays these different colors. It also makes you think about jury's in a different way or better yet gives you a great way of thinking if you get called for jury duty. 12 men in one room the entire time, emotion driven and character driven. Just off based of their conviction choice you learn a little about each member of the jury's life. This has to be the same motivation or weakness a prosecutor looks for in jury members. (As shown in The Devil's Advocate) I loved every second of this film and its probably the BEST movie i've ever seen.

Conclusion: 12 Angry Men is arguably the BEST MOVIE EVER MADE. If you have any interest and movie viewing this is a Must See! It has instantly made it to my TOP 5 films. Character Driven, emotional and times but most of all a very argumentative movie. Hats off the director and actors for putting together a great movie like this in ONE room. (well actually 2 but who's counting) I loved it loved it loved it.

MUST SEE/MUST OWN

5/5
I always rate this is one of the top 5-10 movies ever made. I've relayed a story many times on here about it, and I'll do so again. In the 1970s, my mentor was travelling around Europe writing and came across a Holocaust survivor in Paris. That survivor told him that the movie 12 Angry Men reconfirmed his belief in justice and the quality of man. Pretty powerful.

i finally finished figuring out U.S. release dates on all the films i've seen (well, vast majority, i'm probably missing about 10-15) and decided to make a Top 10 Favorites of each year (if there were even ten to choose from ) so while some years had a plethora of choice (2007 with 65 films), others are very slim and thus, everything i've seen makes that given list because i haven't even seen ten from it (a la 1972 with only 3 films, two of which i don't like).

to make sense of the madness, it will go year, and then the number in parenthesis is how many films i've seen of that specific year followed by the list in spoilers to keep this as short as possible. enjoy

BTW: i deliberately put a U.S. release date on all films (including foreign films) so while There Will Be Blood was put with the 2007 films for awards because of the odd time frame the awards have, it's technically a 2008 release, so that's where it is.

i was surprised at what made the Top 10 in a lot of years, probably because there are a lot of films on the shorter / incomplete lists that would NEVER make the list in some years. and i was surprised at how strong some years are (1999, 2001, 2004, 2007) while some are very "meh" and i was hard pressed to find 10 favorites (1995, 1996, 2010) but here it is, as is. of course, this could always be different for some years with a little effort on that particular year in film.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse - Snatched this up this morning and popped it in. This is the best film in the series. Some many people (men haha) hate on this film and prejudge this film like no other. Its your guys loss for not watching this. Had to throw that in real quick, now back to the film. The story was great and we got to learn a lot more about both sides and how things came to be. The back stories were excellent and very intriging to see. The ending battle was bananas and I have to say the acting was very good as it seems like these kids are coming along very well with each film. I am definitely ready for parts 4 & 5. Definite recommend to anyone, especially vampire & wolf fans. Got Em!!

Film Rating - 4 1/2 stars (out of 5)

PQ - 5 stars (out of 5)

see, that's the thing. the first film (i've only seen the first) wasn't really a vampire story. sure, that's what Edward is, but it was barely touched upon as a story telling tool. it was simply a story about a new girl in a new town and a new, weird quiet guy who is super white. there's barely anything about vampires there, which turned the film into just another sappy, awful teen love story that did nothing right

does that change in the second and third films? does the fact that one character is a vampire and one in a wolf actually come into play or is it just a flash in the pan "oh look, he's a vampire, remember" type set up?

i was surprised at what made the Top 10 in a lot of years, probably because there are a lot of films on the shorter / incomplete lists that would NEVER make the list in some years. and i was surprised at how strong some years are (1999, 2001, 2004, 2007) while some are very "meh" and i was hard pressed to find 10 favorites (1995, 1996, 2010) but here it is, as is. of course, this could always be different for some years with a little effort on that particular year in film.

Hmmm, Hitchcock is missing. Some of his films will probably appeal.

does that change in the second and third films? does the fact that one character is a vampire and one in a wolf actually come into play or is it just a flash in the pan "oh look, he's a vampire, remember" type set up?
Yea I cant deny the romance in the film but that is a big part of the story in general. I dont want to give to much away and hope that u watch the other two but Ill try to explain without giving away a lot.
[Show spoiler]The 2nd film is more about the wolves and introducing the wolves. Yes the romance is still a big part but there are some great wolve scenes and this is basically where they come in. The 3rd one is excellent and it covers both sides with great stories of how it evolved and the ending battle is epic.
Based off what u wrote I really think u will enjoy the 3rd film and may judge the 2nd film like the first. Give them a shot man. Got Em!!

will do, eventually
the gf has seen them (of course) but i'm sure once she buys them or tries and gets me to buy them (eh, maybe a Christmas present for her... hmmm) then one night we'll watch them. although i may just wait till all the films are done and then watch them. even if i'm not hooked or a big fan of them, i'd rather be able to watch them all in order in like, a day or two then wait another year or so (which is what i'm doing with the Harry Potter series - waiting).

I think the first two will really interest you because of the techniques and plot structure.

Strangers on a Train was on TCM last week. That was good too.

Top 5 director. Possibly the most influential if not my absolute favorite.
