i don't go to the theater either, but this looks like it'll be something i really enjoy. and while i don't blind buy anything anymore (bad habit lol) this might just get me to, and i don't really worry i won't like it.

While I do watch everything other than True Blood on a weekly basis either via cable or Hulu, I actually don't think that's a bad idea given how many shows get axed nowadays. That way you know if the show is actually going to get more than one season. I'd do it just like you, but I don't have the patience to wait that long for new seasons of shows like Chuck and Fringe.
ah, see i wouldn't have patience to wait every week for a new episode of Fringe. so i just buy the seasons and then wait it out. gives me times to watch it more than once to fully digest and understand everything (if the show requires it). the only issue is when watching football on FOX and they have damn Fringe commercials for new episodes every 5 minutes luckily not much is given away, but i already know (figured it would happen, but didn't know when) that

that video is wonderful i forgot how often they swore in the movie

i found the film to be extremely mediocre on every level. it was boring, felt pretentious, went nowhere, told no story and i didn't care what was happening or who it was happening to - and nothing did happen! so i really couldn't care less. for me, this is Jamie Foxx's second worst role, very close to his god awful decision to be in Stealth (which also makes my list ) and the movie never should have been made.

i don't remember what i gave it in 2005, but i know it couldn't have been above a 1/5

*pinches himself* Nope, this is real. I better write this down as the day you and I actually agreed on something. I agree with it being a bad habit, but most of the time I stick to things I know I'll like and I have rarely been bitten on blind buys. For me, I'd rather blind buy something I really want to see than spend the money to go and see it in the theater. Love and Other Drugs is a perfect example. Now, something like Avatar would be an exception since it screamed to be seen in the theater once.

I can understand your approach as it allows you to watch them at your own pace, but I couldn't do that for some shows as I've already said. Your way is probably better, but I manage. Now, when I re-watch them, it is on Blu-ray of course.

I agree about Fox's promos for Fringe. I understand it is sometimes impossible not to spoil things, but they tend to spoil the next episode too often with the promos after each episode. I watch it on Hulu now or just skip watching the promos anymore if I record the show. That keeps me away from the promos most of the time since most of the football I watch is on CBS since my team is in the AFC. I guess one positive with the promos is that it seems that they are advertising the show a lot from what you said.

It sure seems like when you hate a film, you really HATE it.

There's just a few on your list I'd disagree with, but for most of them I can't blame you.

Only one Uwe Boll film?!

Predator (1987)

I've seen this movie a few times here and there on tv but never got the chance to sit down and watch it the way it was meant to be viewed.

I rented the blu-ray disc from Netflix and I'm pretty sure it was the original version, not the Ultimate Hunter Edition. There was a LOT of grain, a lot of uneven camera shots in terms of darkness and grain. I'm not a hater of grain, it's just something I noticed and I think the transfer job was kind of bad.

The movie itself was cool... really straightforward, no character development, but entertaining nonetheless. To be honest, I've enjoyed other action movies more. This is definitely not a movie I'd buy because I wouldn't go out of my way to watch this for another 5 years.

Anyway, all in all it was a chill movie.

The Prestige

I've seen this movie several times and usually find something new to like about it. After knowing everything that happens in the movie it is very interesting to watch the actors performance and the way they interact with each other.
[Show spoiler] When you know that Christian Bale's character has an identical twin it is very cool to try and figure out which one is which in his interactions with his wife. He also conveys his pain and anguish as you find out what he is sacrificing in order to have such an amazing trick.

One thing that is consistent through all of Nolan's films are memories (or more broadly the mind). Every film he has made is largely driven by memories and how they affect a given character. These are conveyed through flashbacks, and are often incorporated into the story. For example in The Prestige the film is told over different periods in time. There are flashbacks telling the story as the two rivals are reading through each other's diaries.

Fringe is a tough wait. So are Mad Men and Breaking Bad. The rest are not too hard, but those three are a struggle.
