You have to realize there are many old(er) games that have elements that no other game has improved on or even tried to be like!! Look at old Sonic games on the Gensis.. they are among my favorite.. and I play them from time to time. There is simply no game ever made that is anything like Sonic..and the new ones mostly suck. If a new Sonic came out that played similar to the old ones (with some obvious improvements) I would be all over it..

So.. mentioning Wolfenstein maybe shows you dont really get what we are referring to. There are a lot of old games that simply nothing compares yet to date. Until something does I may get a hair up my arse to play it
Mentioning Wolfenstein was for shock value and I do understand what you are referring to. Let me mention the online portion of today's gaming society. It really came to the forefront with the Xbox and then with Sony introducing FREE online gaming with the PS3 has changed the entire dynamics of why a lot of us play.

When I had PS2, I did not have it hooked up online and played all kinds of games in their single player campaigns or me and another buddy playing together. What I don't understand is how can someone (talking about PS2, PS1, and other older gaming consoles) play the same game over and over and over regardless of how good the "Game Dynamics" are against the system that does the same thing almost everytime? Wow, there's a challenge. And we are not talking about the graphics. Online is always different, IT'S ALWAYS DIFFERENT! Sure, in COD4 we play the same 12 maps, but the scores and enemies are always different. You learn new things and gain abilities. You play against better players and worse players. You have good rounds and bad rounds.

I love the baseball games and have played since the days of ColecoVision. I can play (and have played) a complete 162 game season against the computer and beat it almost everytime on almost any level - what the hell is the fun in that? Now go online and play against 1000's of other gamers and you see just how good you are. Then combine the "Game Dynamics" (we're looking for seamless realsim here) and great "Next Generation" graphics and that to ME is what I look for in gaming.

Not to worry if I can play games from the past (after I have played and beat them) when there is no longer a challenge.
