How exactly do you get that from a chart that shows blu winning everywhere? You're probably looking at the worng graph. The OP was deriding the first chart as inaccurate then created there own which is more accurate. Read the right one.

Here's a screenshot: googlebluhd.png And a close-up of the total: googlebluhd2.png So, as you see, the red is clearly winning over all the blue. Unless I'm reading it seriously wrong and the numbers closer to 0 are the winners... but as far as I know, the chart is plotting number of searches, not ranks. |

HD-DVD has the top 10 and top 25....but BD smokes them in the top 100 sales...
we win because we have an impact in the top 100 sales being that we don't rely on a select number of titles for a win....we have what people call a library of quality options |

It isn't really about "winning" it's a gauge of curiousity based on internet searches. In Japan there could be several anomalies. 1) Blu is dominant there so maybe people are searching because they already know about blu and truly wonder what HD-DVD even is... how many Americans Google McDonald's or WalMart? 2) Google is not the prime search engine in Japan so their numbers may be off.

Order doesn't matter so, DVD HD is the same thing and it's a way to look for HDD-equiped DVD recorders. I was told by an insider of a meeting he had with Toshiba engineers in Japan, and he asked about HD DVD, and it took the engineers 5 minutes to realize he wasn't talking about HDD DVD recorders. HD DVD has been slamming amazon. I dont think this google chart is a good consolation prize. WHat do we only look at the good news? I dont want to turn into hd dvd and put my head in the sand when I hear bad news..
Obviously there has been some giveaways affecting that. They figured out we have been watching those numbers so they found the best way to make them move. Its nice to see the bogo up today, but it would be nice to see a big ps3 + movies promo. HD DVDers have always said amazon was insignificant, however this is proof they dont think so. Amazon is the only online outlet that gets tracked by neilsen?(Am I right?) so I'd say it does matter. I'd like to see it turnaround. Bogos will help but I think everyone has gotten what they wanted from those, and just putting the same titles on sale is not going to do it over and over. It would be nice to see also a "Buy a blu ray player, put X free movies in your shopping cart for free" This is obvioulsy how they have done it and would be great for the attach rate of new ps3s to do that. With a handful of free movies, that ps3 owner is going to get hooked. |
