I'm highly suspicious that it is just rumor due to the fact it came out on the HP and Bourne release date. I can't imagine WB would say anything to jeopardize HP sales on DUD.

You mean like sneak a few HD DVDs into Blu-Ray sets.

which begs the questions do HD-DVDs accidently shiped with blu-ray sets count as HD-DVD sales?

We should absolutely keep buying Warner titles and show our strength. Now is not the time to give up.

However, nothing in WB's position is going to change until mid-to-end of next year. This is all about greed. BD and HD-DVD supports alike are just pawns. Like I said in another thread: Join a church and go on a Mission if you're looking for a religious experience. This is about $$$...and nothing more. They will have no love loss burning one side of the field or the other when the final decision comes down.

To quote Donald Trump: "Someone Will Be Left Holding The Bag".

Thank you. The same goes for politics people, this isn't the place to discuss either one.

Well, it is the only way they can get them off the shelf.

I can see them staying as is since they are pulling money from both sides. If they picked one over the other they lose that other segment of business. After all it is all about the money.

It would not surprise me as a business move. Get more sales from both sides and keep thier name in the news. That is what counts for them.

Seriously, have we been playing this game since Sept? Was that the first leaked rumor? Regardless it's getting old. Warner needs Blu-ray (for the sited reasons) Blu-ray doesn't need warner. They would like warner, but if they're going to play this teenager drama queen game then good riddance and we'll have a dual format quagmire because of them.

Either way, Thanks Warner, hurry up before we could care less.

Wrong. Blu-Ray needs to whatever it takes to wrap this stupid format war up as soon as possible. Getting Warner over to all Blu is the most expedient way of getting this accomplished.

I highly disagree that Blu-ray doesn't need Warner, and if you believe that then I think you should take off your Blu glasses. Let them go red and find out how much Blu need thems, neutral at very least.

That is rather arrogant to think that blu does not need them. They need all not a selected assortment. Can someone please help me out here. I see people post comments like these are not must buy movies and if I don't like what happens I'll take them back which leaves me confused. I understand that this a blu site but where is the love of movies? To me the thought of buying a movie just because it is on blu is ridiculous. I have to really like a movie for me to buy it. I really see this a plain waste of money that could go to a needy cause instead. I love movies plain and simple. Maybe I am to old to understand the greed of having stuff just say that I have it.

I believe there is a good chance that one reason somebody started a fake rumor about Warner going to Blu-ray was so that if they did at least start the process of moving to Blu-ray later and word got leaked, some would see it as the same thing or similar enough to get dismiss it. Penton-Man downplayed the last rumor, but not this one. I think that other rumor gives this one more credibility because he downplayed it and showed he wouldn't just play up a Warner rumor because he wanted it to happen.

I figure there is a good chance that Time Warner could get $300 million to go Blu-ray exclusive (some for Warner and some for New Line). Total disc sales between all studios haven't even been that high, not even considering just profits. And unlike the Paramount and Dreamworks moves to HD DVD, if Warner and New Line do move to Blu-ray exclusively it will probably lead to most reasonable people considering Blu-ray the winner within 6 months. So, kind of solidifies Warner's status as a powerful force (along with New Line). Obviously, some HD DVD zealots would be upset. However, when people look back at the turning point in the war years from now and who had the biggest influence, Warner would likely be one of the first things mentioned. Kind of like a star player joining a team that is in a battle (but leading) and then having them trounce everybody from then on and winning the championship.

And just from the money standpoint, Warner could get a payoff now and have the Blu-ray market grow to much more than the combination of HD DVD and Blu-ray would be if the battle continues. One thing about the Blu-ray side is that they have the money to push the format. If Toshiba pays Warner and New Line to go their direction, I wonder if they will still budget to push things hard. They don't seem to be pushing hard anywhere except in the US and Canada and already announced a huge loss. Would they keep spending that kind of money in North America and start spending real money to advance things around the world (at least in first world countries)?

I think the ratios for the Harry Potter movies and Blade Runner are pretty important. If a push to get those ratios as high as possible is done and they end up well for Blu-ray, but Warner still doesn't turn by the middle of January, then I could see people giving up on them. But this next week and a half isn't the time to give up IMO.

This is shortsighted. They will make more money in the long run by going blu only. The reason is simple. If their going blu-exclusive essentially ended the format war it would massively accelerate broad adoption of next-gen. Warner, like all studios, badly needs next-gen HD media to overtake DVDs whose margins are eroding radpily every qtr.

How could they? They will be counted as whatever the bar code says on the box. Do you think they open the box to scan them?

But, of course, it's based on a premise many consider nonsense. There is no indication right now that consumers are interested in downloads replacing the physical.

Gary
Correct. As has always been the case and will continue to be: HD-DVD can afford to lose nothing whatsoever.
