Yeh i suppose your right, the movie could'nt be salvaged even with a R rated certificate. I have been wondering weather to buy it or not, I did'nt know they had already had a special edition on blu-ray.
I will give it a miss, as by the sounds of it, even the special edition never made a difference to the disappointing movie.
I hope avp-2 is worth the wait.

From what I understand from the first AVP, FOX put a TON of pressure on Paul "Weak Sauce" Anderson to deliver a PG-13 verson of the movie. I am not surprised by this since they have a history of interfering with directors on final cuts of movies. Just ask Brian Singer about the X-MEN franchise. This is why he bailed on the third movie. Warner gave Singer all the room to wiggle in to work on SUPERMAN RETURNS. David Fincher was so fed up with the cuts and changes tha FOX made on ALIEN3 that he desperately tried to get his name removed from it as director and put Alan Smithee on it.

I'm so glad we finally got to see what essentially is his cut of Alien3. It was far superior

yeh i agree, the final cut of alien 3 was a great movie than the theatre release and i do hope that it comes out on blu-ray as the director's cut.

Yeah, there were strong rumors that AVP was going to be PG13 long before the rating was announced, back when the teaser came out I think.

As for Superman Returns, it's too bad despite Singer's involvement it was a big disappointment, it was boring and pretty much flat-out sucked compared to X-men 1 and 2.

AVP should NEVER have been made as a PG-13.
It's hard to fault Anderson for Fox's BS.

Technically it's just the workprint restored by Terry Rawlings. Fincher has had no involvement since walking off post-production of Alien3. It was a better film though, I agree.

Don't buy as many discs as I used to since having children, but the first Predator movie would be snapped up regardless of what the mrs says

You're talking about a few gore shots or blood sprays for the most part really, and a few throwaway deleted scenes.

No, it's Anderson's fault for making an awful movie

I think AVP is the best idea in the horror genre for a long time. I really hope there will be yet more AVP movies afterwards, in the meantime I can't wait to see this last AVP Requiem, released on the big screen in January over here.
Note that over here the movie will be called: AVP survival of the fittest

That was the original name in America, but someone made the right decision and changed it.

I liked the earlier name I saw for it:

Aliens Vs. Predator

Anyway, I'll be happy to pick up AVP2, the four Aliens, and the 2 Predators should Fox decide to release them all.

Sorry, what I meant was Fox determined AVP would be PG-13, not Anderson.

I cant wait for the predators. I like him, I cant stand Aliens though. Just my opinion. I have all the Predators and Aliens on DVD and I will get them on Blu-ray as well.

I totally agree with you on Superman Returns. Superman Returns is a remake of Superman. Bryan Singer should have reinvented the franchise just as Christopher Nolan reinvented Batman with Batman Begins. Batman Begins is the absolutley the best Batman movie hands down. The Dark Knight will continue the legacy that Batman Begins started. Superman Returns if I pretend the first four movies do not exist was a good movie, but it was just a remake... too many similarities. I would have rather seen a new Superman updated to be excatly like the original but minuse the cheeseyness of the movie. The next best superhero movie is going to be Ironman.

As for the Alien and Predator franchises, well Fox should have stopped with Alien and Fox should have stopped with Predator. Both are excellent films. Aliens is good but being in hyper sleep for 40 plus years give me a break that is too much of a stretch...

Most of his movies are garbage though. I dislike him for what he did to the Resident Evil movies, and AVP was terrible.

AVP: Requiem looks promising, especially since there is no Anderson to tamper with it That and from trailers it looks like they are making the movie based on one of the original drafts for the first AVP that I read several years ago. If it is based on the script I read, it'll be a good flick.

SUPERMAN RETURNS was actually more of a "true" sequel to *****AN II if make III & IV go away. The events of RETURNS take place about 5-6 years after the events of II. Singer wanted to keep to the spirit that Donner laid out. The next movie should be pretty awesome after laying out all of that "let's play catch up" of the last one.
