Kojima is a movie fan, he gets his inspiration from movies. He tries to make his game 'movie like'. You guys remember Escape from New York? The main characters name is Solid Snake, and there are phisycal similarities as well. Plus, the mustache of Snake in MGS4 was modeled after the actor who played, the bad, in 'the good, the bad and the ugly'. Cant remember the actors name.

The actors name is Kurt Russel, and the character he played was Snake Plisskin not Solid Snake. However, in MGS2, Solid Snake masqueraded as a Navy Lieutenant named "Plisskin", so we know for a fact that the character from Escape from New York, Escape from L.A. inspired the character of Solid Snake.
