It's probably the most popular format online for large movies. REAL POPULAR in pirated movies.

While it's true about DivX being quite popular with the internet pirates, though many public domain movies and video files are distributed via bittorrent clients and they are often in DivX/XviD formats. Plus, some people like to extract the movies from their own DVDs and convert them to DivX/XviD and other formats and put them on their iPod, PS3 and other video devices.
