The rainbow effect is a real issue.

You may not see it, but I do and there is no way I would ever buy a DLP set regardless of size or value because I would not enjoy it.

Sony LCD HDTV's do not have rainbow effect issues.

Yeah, I've read about it. I haven't had too much of an issue. Or maybe it's good that my vision sucks and I can't see it. Regardless, I am actually surprised at how pleased I am with it. I actually went from a 42" Panasonic Plasma (720p) to the bigger DLP because of its size and the fact that it was 1080p. I wasn't sure at first but I've come to like it.

The rainbow effect is caused by the spinning color wheel in single chip DLP designs. Three chip designs do not have this problem, though they are also currently not competively priced. Many cinemas are starting to use DLP projection systems and the ones I have seen (Christie though not sure of the model) are very nice.

Answering the question of the OP, I'm now on my 4th HD display. I've had a 34" widescreen CRT (sold) , a 50" rear projection DLP (sold), and currently a 32" LCD, and a DLP front projector.

I don't see myself replacing the front projector anytime soon though I could really use a larger LCD or plasma than the 32" for the bedroom. I have contemplated moving the current front projector in there and upgrading the main viewing room, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I just bought my Mitsubishi 73" DLP about a month ago and I'm already considering selling it and buying the new Sony 70" SXRD rear projection when it comes out in the next few months...but that really depends on how much it costs.
