I passed on Potter because it was, well, Potter. Picked up HSM2 instead.

Hey they threw the best they had at us and still lost the week. For god sake what if we would have had the Bourne exclusive to blu instead of red? What do you think the numbers would have been like

With out the Bourne we win 61:39
If the bourne would have been blu exclusive 84:16 easily

So let's give it a rest with the doomsday and celebrate a great 2007

Indeed I would have bought the box set for full price. I wanted to watch that more than Transformers.

how much momentum does BD have going into 2008 and CES. Visiting the AVS thread you can just feel the collective exhales of death form the sane folks. With certain generals still chugging along the company lines and isolating their comments to planet earths "centipede" like legs, while ignoring the ACTUAL issue at hand......61:39.

If anyone who supports HD DVD truly thinks PE is selling like hotcakes because of legitimacy they are delussional. PE is selling amazingly because of Oprah and ill informed soccer moms. End of story.

I am so excited right now for the future of BD.

I said earlier, anything better than a 60:40 was a incredible winner.

I would have liked to see a better ratio on Potter but BD titles tend to extend their lead the longer they are in circulation.

Nice week though, especially with the volumes.

The bad news is that HP's genre of children fantasy appears to have not done well. This means that every single movie that has done well (around or > 100k in week1) is a blockbuster action with more violence targeted at > 20yrolds. 300, TF, Bourne, CR, DH4, PotC3 - these are violent movies. Spidey3 is the tamest of them. (Well maybe TF too).

Family and Teenage fare appear to still face a sales hurdle in HDM.

The good news is that with this week, it's quite apparent that BD is going to take every week of 2007. 2007 is a blu year as far as Nielsen numbers are concerned.

I was pretty sure that TF & Bourne were possible red weeks. So that's it for nielsen videoscan 2007. Next week there's simpsons, undoubtedly still popular, but unlikely to be a blockbuster HDM hit.

Especialy considering all the Blu-Ray Potter box sets that were taken out of circulation and could'nt be sold due to customers returning/exchanging their DUD infested Potter box sets.

HDM Forecast for next week: milder weather moving in with lows in the high 60's and highs in the low 70's

So I am in the HDDVD chat on efnet and before the results came in, the mods were positive HD-DVD won this week. They KNEW IT. Then the results come in and its all about Blu only outselling Harry Potter 1.2/1 HD-DVD. That this would show Warner, despite the PS3 numbers, HD-DVD has a larger attach rate, thereby causing Warner to go exclusive HD-DVD at CES and thereby bring others with them, including Disney... Yes, I am serious lol So, the HD-DVD camp loses/ will have lost 52 weeks out of 52 weeks in 2007, and yet Warner will be going exclusive HD-DVD? Man, talk about kool-aid.

Keep in mind that on the blu side, HP has some very major competition for family movie dollars, such as Pirates 3. Does HD-DVD have any other big family movies that came out recently besides HP (I doubt Shrek 3 counts)? It's a sign of a healthy market, I'm sure WB knows they'll have to compete with other movies, but the fact blu still out-sold HD-DVD shows blu-ray is really healthy.

i think that unfortunately kind of makes sense. single (or childless) 20-30yos are the demographic with the most disposable income (i.e. they haven't thought about investing for retirement etc yet) and are probably in general the biggest current buyer of HDM.

likewise, the true buyers (and the true future of HDM) are/will be the families, which by definition are more leery of blowing money that could be spent on the kids' education/feeding/whatever on a situation where the format war is still ongoing - assuming they even care/know that the format war is ongoing. again, they've got bigger things to worry about in general.

still, once that demographic really starts making the jump, that's where they disney factor will kick in once and for all.

Anyone who thinks these #s are bad in ANYWAY are out of their mind. I was expecting low 50s for BD, 61 is INSANE! Remember these facts:

BDs big release that week was a title on BOTH formats

HD DVD had their first BOGO ever and BD had none

HD DVD had Ultimatum all to itself

Ultimatum barely outsold RESIDUALS of a title from the previous week!!!

Potters were the title to buy on every HD DVD fanatics list, and TONS of potter sets were not available for sale due to people swapping sets to find one with proper discs, etc, AND THEY STILL LOST by a margin!

Seriously, anyone NOT thinking that this is one of the best weeks for BD in the history of the format, is absolutley BANANAS!

Great job guys. I did my part and bought potter + POTC3 + more. We kicked ass and chewed bubble gum, and now we're all out of gum.

Guys ...stop worrying about the low HP OotP ratio. Harry Potter HD DVD was probably riding Bourne Ultimatum's big coattails. Expect the ratio to increase to normal or above next week.

As much as I love blu and love this forum I must say we have a bunch pansies on this website. I can only imagine how they would act if they where on the hd dvd side.

People we will win every week in 2007 and Warner is about to join us exclusive. Start act like winner not like little whinny pessimist.

Don't be so sure that some of them aren't. Though I haven't seen them much lately.
There are people who are daft enough to think that they can be a hd dvd savior by making repetitive, negative jabs at blu-ray on its website.
Silly fanatics, hd dvd is for kids.

well, some of the "pansies" are red people trying to create cause for panic...

and the rest are people who don't know how to handle a commanding lead...like MS has some sort of trump card...

..at this point, it's too late for a trump card..

Remember that the BD camp was not the only one stirring up the faithful to buy, buy, buy. Their "generals" as someone named them were also driving for their fans to send a message to Warner even while saying that WB was definitely going red.

So, with both sides whipping their respective fans into a buying frenzy, this is how things turn out. I think it is pretty momentous considering the record turnout.

On the PE thing, I think it is a point well taken that this title is seeing the Oprah effect. On top of that, it has been a title targeted for organized buy-a-thons. But even given that, the BD version is not all that far behind. Even the Oprah effect has not moved this title out of reach of the BD version. Someone needs to give Oprah a BD player for Christmas though.

I think that this weeks titles are going to keep us head and shoulders above the thin red line. I wonder if the decision to shift most of the big titles for next week to pre-Christmas will give the titles for the last week of the year a boost or not.

Wow! With blu ray having out sold the red side 52 straight weeks in a row, WB would be shot if they went exclusive to dud. Seriously, though. Someone would be fired.

What a great year for blu.

I don't know about you guys, but the two or three weeks after Christmas are what I'm most curious about.

That's when buyers who have held off on some BR movies (to allow for presents -- I had to do this) and new owners come in. That should be an important few weeks, arguably just as important as the weeks prior to Christmas.
