sorry, now that i reread that it does come off that i know something. i was just writing down my opinions. i have no inside information.

one last thing, i think the moral about warner doing the right thing has gone down a lot on this site. penton shouldn't have to write everyday the same thing, he hasn't said anything more and he hasn't said anything less, meaning we should be just as excited about things as when he posted them. also, execs shouldn't have to say the same things over. we had two execs say wb was going blu-ray most likely and neither of them have come out and said anything different. wb did not call them out or complain, they just simply denyed the statement and said, AT THE TIME, they have no intention.

LOL that would be a gold moment.

Here's my prediction on the Warner speech at CES

Because we are Dual Format supporter, we sold 160,000 copies of HP on Both Blu and Red, if we where only on format we would have sold 90,000 only .. dont you see HOW MUCH COOLER IT IS TO BE DUAL

.....

That's my take..

If Warner doesn't announce exclusivity by the end of January, I'm done with the war.

I'm sick and tired of having to double check every movie trailer I see, hoping to see that it won't be Paramount or Universal. Even that's not enough, my surprise was complete when the trailers for "Beowulf" said Warner but oh, snag...Paramount has the distribution rights!

I'm tired of being jerked around. I'm tired of being treated like a second-class-citizen because I actually want high def media. I'm tired of Hollywood putting short term profits in the way of the consumer.

Six months ago I didn't feel this way. Six months ago I thought that there might be an end in site. Now I'm beginning to feel like the war will not end until both die, because Hollywood is just plain greedy.

I will state that I will *never* own downloadable movies. If I have to forego movies altogether because of this stupidity I will.

61:39 is a great win. They had one of their biggest exclusives and didn't they have a B1G1 free?

Blu-Ray dominated and Blu-Ray will now win every week of 2007, and probably every week of January 08. IF Warner stick to their word theres no excuse not to go exclusive.

don't blame hollywood, blame MS and corporate america, many of these movie studios are owned by major corporations (universal = General Electric; WB = Time Warner; Fox = News Corp.; Paramount = Viacom) MS comes into the big coporate board room and says, here is 200 million dollars to boost your stock price and make you investors happy right now! The corporate board doesn't care about HDM, the care about making their stockholders happy. Sales from their HDM for the quarter will make up maybe 5-6 million max. and here is MS offering them 200 million dollars for the quarter, of course they are going to take the money and run. The small, movie studio part of the company, really doesn't have much of a decision they have to do waht the big bosses say.

I agree. I'm pretty sure Max had said HP on Blu was ahead 1:7:1 with a day left. Max is usually spot on and I find it hard to believe the ratio would move that much in a day.

Of course it could be DV just softening the blow for the dudsters. For those people defending DV I suggest they do search and read the threads about BD50 yields and replication costs. The ones that got PM so worked up he took a brief hiatus. DV is an ass.

hd dvd is starved for content and given that this is their last big release til probably american gangster, which is 2 months away, and isn't even all that great, they gotta buy things up like HP as it is the only decent things they can get.
You are likely correct that the Blu Ray share for HP will grow as time goes by.

I don't see this data as providing much ammunition for the "WB going Blu" rumours though.

DV is not going to provide fake numbers, as I'm sure many others have said in the course of this thread.

The only question would be one of whether there were different sources used by Max vs DV.

But DV's sources seem to reflect what we ultimately see published.

DV's sources are only correct for the overall percentage and the order.

They tend to be quite off for numbers. I think that's because his sources do creative rounding.

I mean, honestly, his sources believe Paramount's Transformers number over Neilson's.

Would anyone be surprised if "1.2" turned out to be 45000 for HD-DVD (rounded to 50K) and 64000 for Blu-Ray (rounded to 60K)?

wb is going to look more at the overall market than 1 particluar release. the fact that HP blu barely beat out HP red and red had bourne + BOGOs and blu-ray still won by 22% shows you that the market is very heavily favored towards blu. don't think for a second, wb ignores this. they know that hd dvd buyers have heard the rumor and have litterly been scared into buying titles just to keep their format alive. they know that hd dvd will probably drop off the deep end next week, while blu will stay afloat. they know that blu-ray HP has to compete against major titles like pirates, die hard, superbad, spiderman, where hd dvd has to compete against Bourne and on top of that they run BOGOs on new releases so if you buy one you can get the other for free (this certainly boosted HP sales). I think a lot of ppl take WB for stupid, and they are not stupid. they could be greedy and that could be a problem.

Mr. Vaughn's final numbers are accurate... but he was WAY off about Pirates, saying that it had sold less than 100k, when it actually did 160k.

DIGITAL PLAYGROUND GOES BLU-RAY® WITH “PIRATES”

Blockbuster Adult Feature is DP’s First Blu-ray Release

December 20, 2007 --- VAN NUYS, Calif. ---
Digital Playground today announced its premiere release of “Pirates” on the Blu-ray format just in time to satisfy demand from all the new Blu-ray player and PS3 gift recipients this holiday. Now available for the first time in full HD 1080p “Pirates,” the record-breaking, multi-award-winning adult feature, will ship on January 4, 2008. The most expensive adult effort yet produced, “Pirates” was lauded with awards from every associated panel, notably a record-breaking 13 from AVN, including Best Selling and Best Rental title honors. Building upon the success of the film within its traditional market, the studio received an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America® (MPAA), thus gaining mainstream recognition and distribution.

Samantha Lewis, Digital Playground CEO comments, “We’re excited to release ‘Pirates’ on Blu-ray. In today’s high-definition market our priority has always been consumer choice. We believe it’s important to allow the consumer the option to make a purchase regardless of format. We look forward to preparing new titles for release in the Blu-ray format.”

Joone, Digital Playground Co-Founder and award-winning Director comments, “The Blu-ray format is an excellent fit for ‘Pirates’ as this feature offers a multitude of bonus features. The format’s extra capacity, and advanced video and audio qualities, allows Digital Playground to deliver an unparalleled HD 1080p experience to consumers.”

Added value features on “Pirates” are also available in HD 1080p and include:

• Behind-the-Scenes Footage in HD

• Visual FX “Making Of”

Synopsis: “Pirates” is the 18th-century story of Isabella (Carmen Luvana) and her new husband Manuel Valenzuela (Kris Slater). On their wedding night, they make their way across the sea to his new job at a trading post in the Caribbean. Unbeknownst to either of the newlyweds, Manuel possesses an inherited power for which renegade pirate Capt. Victor Stagnetti (Tommy Gunn) and his mate Serena (Janine) lust. Capt. Stagnetti and his pirate crew board the ship carrying the young couple, kidnap Manuel, and set Isabella afloat assuming that she'll drown. Fortunately, pirate hunters Capt. Edward Reynolds (Evan Stone) and his first-mate Jules (Jesse Jane) rescue Isabella from the ravages of the sea. In due course, Capt. Reynolds and his crew follow the pirates into a forbidding cave, do battle with an army of skeleton warriors assigned from antiquity to protect the cave and its contents, reunite Isabella and Manuel, and sink the pirate ship and its mates.

I agree, now that the numbers seem firm, a win, and honestly not even close, is a win. You know that Warner has to be sitting back and saying to themselves, Blu Ray has won every week this past year. Looking at first quarter in 2008, HD DVD has no chance. They will not just be looking at thier title's sales, but the format as a whole. They will look at the over-all picture and world figures. I think we all know that the CES show is going to be big for Blu!! Happy New Year!

And BluRayManiac, you also need to clean up what you post. You seem to be coming over the top calling folks morons, etc. There's a time and place for everything. Be careful so you don't make Blu-ray fans look bad. Seriously.

Dude, no offense but that's ridiculous. I can understand you being frustrated with the format war (we all are), but to imply that you're going to give up on Blu-ray is being over dramatic! I was just telling my girlfriend the other night that I don't know how I'd be able to afford movies from the other studios if the war ended because I'm buying so many as it is! Don't sweat it. Rent and buy the movies that are available - ENJOY THEM! Because they're awesome and nothing beats the quality. But stay blu - nothing but good things will come from it and things aren't going to happen or change overnight.

I really can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't get into Blu-ray to win a format war. I got into it because I love movies and movies on Blu are totally blowing me away!
