i watched The Abyss (whichever cut it was) about a year ago or so and i liked it, but don't think i'd be willing to spend over $12 on it. and as for True Lies, i gave it a 2.5/5 and unless i rent it and like it more the next time, or can get it for, let's say $5, that will be one i pass on as well. although i'm sure The Abyss will look great and True Lies will sound great. dvd sounds like crap. |

Of course the Abyss will be the extended cut and, more likely, both cuts via seamless branching just like the DVD. There's not a chance in hell that Cameron would allow them to release just the theatrical cut

From thedigitalbits last year 9/29/10-
__________________________ "Okay... the following should be considered VERY tentative. However, we've now heard it from multiple independent sources, including reliable industry insiders, so.... Sources are telling us that director James Cameron has been (or it about to begin) working on a new high-def transfer and master of The Abyss, presumably for eventual Blu-ray Disc release. As many of you know, The Abyss is a title that doesn't even have an anamorphic widescreen DVD release (neither does True Lies for that matter) so it's LONG overdue. We've been hearing this might soon happen from industry insiders for a couple of months now, but the most recent report on this comes from a longtime Bits reader (thank you, Jon H!) who actually had the chance to meet Cameron a few weeks ago. He asked specifically about the possibility of The Abyss coming to Blu-ray, and Cameron said that he was about to start work on a new transfer using the same process he did with the Aliens Blu-ray. Cameron then proceeded to say that he was really excited about how good Aliens looks on the format. So... fingers crossed... maybe we'll finally see those remaining Cameron titles on Blu-ray in the next 12 months or so... As always, none of this should be considered official until the studios make their official yadda, yadda... You all know the drill by now. Stay tuned!" __________________________ |

The Abyss will be a day one for me. It is one of those movies I can watch over & over. It's been at or near the top of my wish list since I purchased our first BD player... Even longer considering it never had an anamorphic DVD release.
True Lies I can take or leave. Come to think of it, I never upgraded my VHS copy to DVD. |

Lets hope Cameron gives us the SE extended cut of True Lies,I heard there was a bunch of deleted scenes,i would love to see these back in via seemless branching. Cameron is known for releaseing exteneded versions of his films - Aliens,T2,The Abyss,Titanic,Avatar now lets hope the same with True Lies, this will be reference material folks, especially in the sound department.
I am looking forward to both titles day one purchases. |

Ah, then thank you. There's always one poor guy who buys the old version, which immediately leads to the new one being announced. We are in your debt for your noble sacrifice.

I'm a bit surprised there have been no "where is Titanic?" posts in this thread yet, in response to news of two earlier James Cameron films expected on arrive on Blu this year. Really looking forward to The Abyss, hopefully it will include both versions, I have only seen the extended version and while that was a great film, I would still like to see the shorter version, if just to compare them. True Lies is also good fun, but not something I'd be rushing out to buy on Day 1.

The SE DVD of The Abyss contained both versions on one disc, in addition to including a small booklet that detailed the additions to the theatrical version. Hopefully the Blu-Ray does the exact same thing.
