Fantastic Mr. Fox [81 minutes]
Year: 2009 Director: Wes Anderson Voice work by: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe and many others. you don't own Fantastic Mr. Fox? what the cuss is wrong with you! ![]() i bought this day one last year in March but gave it / sold it to my cousin who loved it a lot, knowing one day i would re-buy it. sure enough, picked it up at Best Buy while it was on sale for $9.99 (which apparently was for a whole day ![]() Fantastic Mr. Fox = complete fun. quirky, fresh, exciting and briskly paced at 81 minutes. i don't think there is a more fun film released in 2009 ![]() incredibly well written with a lot of unique dialogue and a lot of great jokes that many could miss if you're not paying attention. kids will love it because of the music, characters, visuals and humorous plot and actions, but adults will also find it charming, warm and awesome because of the same things as well as some very smart dialogue. voice work is great, and a title that i watched a lot when i first owned it and will watch on a regular basis now that i finally own it again ![]() i used to give it a 5/5, but i don't feel that way entirely. i still love the film, no doubt about that, but is it a 5/5? not for me. just something that makes me feel that way, but still a fantastic (pun intended) film ![]() 4.5/5 - "love it" |

The Darjeeling Limited
Directed by Wes Anderson Starring Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, Jason Shwartzman 91 minutes Similar to Fantastic Mr. Fox and Bottle Rocket, The Darjeeling Limited is filled with Anderson's quirky style of humor and deals with a dysfunctional group of people. If you like any one of the above, you will probably like the other two. This is set in India and involves three brothers who meet up after not talking for a while in an attempt to repair their relationship. Most of the story takes place on a train and in the surrounding towns they stop in along the way. There's not too much to the story, but I like Anderson's quirky style. The presentation is excellent and the colors jump off the screen. Criterion did a great job with this. Overall 4/5 |

127 Hours - blind buying. anxious to see it Black Swan - blind buying. extremely anxious to see it The Fighter - will rent first. no rush to see it. Inception 3.5/5 i find it laughable for those who think this has any chance of winning BP - and that was well before Nolan got "shafted" out of a Best Director nomination The Kids Are All Right - will see eventually. may be a few years though. odd selection for a BP nominee The King's Speech - will see eventually. sooner rather than later. The Social Network 5/5 - currently, easily my selection as Best Picture of the Year Toy Story 3 5/5 - loved it, of course. True Grit - a bit interested. will see because of the leads, but not gonna see it for awhile Winter's Bone - i'll see it because of some praise it's gotten in this thread, but seems like another odd selection and then there is a film that should have been nominated but was truly shafted: The Town |

I've been addicted to Korean films these past weeks. Why can't Hollywood make movies like they do? Perfect balance of style and substance. Anyways, caught 'A Bittersweet Life' and 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird' by Ji-Woon Kim. Both were excellent.
'A Bittersweet Life' is a revenge film with a classic formula done well. Byung-hun Lee is ridiculously good in this, and after seeing his collaborations with director Kim, I've become a fan. Rating: ***1/2/5 'The Good, the Bad, the Weird,' on the other hand, manages to be totally unique and original while being familiar. It's a mish-mash of Western and Eastern films, and classic and modern styles. The final result is some crazy, mad-scientist concoction that shouldn't work. But it does. The characters, the cinematography, the score, the art direction, the costume designs, the dialogue, the little quirks -- they all work perfectly in just the right doses. For those looking for something refreshing and fun, give this film a try. Rating: ****/5 |

The Thin Red Line.
My first Malick film. I was blown away. First off I need to say the film is BEAUTIFUL. It's probably the most gorgeous film I've ever seen. I understand why it didn't win the oscar however. SPR did something new that is still copied today. The direction is also masterful. The story the film tells could only be told by Malick. And even then, the story, while central to the film, is not the main drive in my mind. The films drving force is the symbolism and philosophy behind every scene. The performances are not dialogue driven, but more in the face of each actor. What they can convey with their eyes. The film is driven by beautiful imagery and fantastic performances/directing. I wish we got the original 5 hour cut. The 14 minutes of deleted scenes (including one with George Clooney that made a very important statement about the film.) were servicable, but there wasn't enough. I won't put a number on the film. Not for a long while. To me, it became more than a film. It became a canvas. I'll need to see it multiple times to grasp what I saw. |

I just saw this and it was indeed a great documentary like I had expected it to be. Though there maybe an other side to this coin, I still think that the writers and director did a great job putting forward their viewpoint and that of Tillmans family in short timespan of 90 minutes. Will give at an easy 8.5/10.
