The receipt shows the serial number of the PS3. If it did not, people could return broken machines, get money back and get a brand new machine for free.

Yeah, DrinkMore is right, I bought a few PS3s back in the day and all the receipts have the serial number of the unit on them so somebody else's receipt is not going to work for you.

When did you get it? If it is a legit unit, you could probably bring it to Sony or call Sony up and see what they can do for you. Sometimes based on your serial number, they might be nice enough to honor the warranty without the receipt.

Most places ask for info (name, phone #, addy, ect) when you purchase those sorts of items... find out where they got it and get their general info and go back there. They will be able to look it up if the store took the info and be able to honor the warranty.

Costco does not keep track of these #.
I took back my PS2 after 3-4 years and put that $ towards my PS3.
But you will have a hard time finding a 60gb they have 40 & 80gb.

Good Luck.

Default Thanks

I want to say thank you for all of your answers...i really appreciate all the help...now i have a second question...

When i was speaking with the manager about not having a receipt, he said that a bank statement would suffice...but the bank statement does not say ps3 or have any serial or anything, just a tracking number.

Does anyone have any experience with sending a ps3 to repair using this method? i just dont want to send it in with the bank statement and it dont work. I would just be very very very very very very VERY upset.

Once again...thanks for all the help!!!

Costco just has an unlimited return policy, well had... They've since changed it to 90 days cause people were taking advantage of it I'd assume..

If it was a gift and the giver is no longer around, how do you have their bank statement?

You should have just registered the unit with Sony and just send it to them for repair through an RMA. That way you won't need the receipt.

That depends on the store actually.

You still need proof of purchase.

That's not necessarily true. I bought my Philips Blu-ray player on Ebay and registered it via Philips' website without the POP. While Sony maybe different in this regard, many companies will let you register their products without the POP.

For Sony they require proof of purchase.

[ clarity ]
They require proof of purchase for warranty service.

Registered products, well, I don't often work in the manner you describe. See, I can register a product 3 years after I actually buy it, warranty doesn't often go off that date. Now I have had companies go off the manufacture date before on registered products. Not saying some companies don't go that route, just saying the companies I've had to deal with, do not .

As I stated before, each company is probably different. My unit was brand new when I bought it in May of this year, but it was manufactured in 11/2006. As soon as I entered the serial #, it showed the MFG date right away, but took my DOP as the actual start of warranty. So the unit is covered until 05/2008. The only thing I was unable to do is to get en extended warranty from Philips. But if I call their customer service, I may even be able to get that.

A bank/credit card statement is a viable alternative, as I have done a repair with this method a couple of months ago. I misplaced the invoice/receipt as it was an online order and was told that a bank/credit statement would suffice, had no problems with the repair/exchange.

Even if the bank/credit card statement doesnt actually name the items purchased, it still will work? with just the price?
