I admire all true blue supporters as I am dual format supported. My question is what do you do for releases on Universal. I just got Kingdom on HD-DVD and would you guys just buy the SD-DVD or not even bother.? I am sure their are alot of universal titles you would love to get your hands on but you cant. I know HD-DVD have no region imports, but blu not the case.
I am not praising HD-DVD just asking what blu only supporters do? |

If a movie isn't on blu-ray format, and I REALLY want to see it-
I'll rent it on standard DVD. Until this format battle is over, I'm not going to prolong it by going "purple" |

I agree. If I just have to see it I'll rent it. I refuse to promote HD-DuD in any way, shape, or form.

Man, I thought Eastern promises was a sweet movie! The kingdom was even better. I just usually rent them in DVD and have my ps3 upconvert them. Like everyone said, they will soon come out in blu-ray; I will buy them then. I've already started making a list haha

Your comments on region coding show several misconceptions: Blu-ray does not require region coding, it just makes it possible for companies who want to impliment it. Most catalog titles have not been region coded on Blu-ray, which is why several people imported The Rock (for example) from the UK prior to it's release here in the the U.S.
So some Universal and Paramount titles are indeed available when released on Blu-ray from other companies over-seas. The advantage of having region-coding possible is that new releases (e.g. Harispray and Rush Hour 3) that are still in international release can be released in the U.S. sooner without jeaporadizing the theatrical release. Also, Disney, which uses a timed "vault" release format for their classics will not release their titles without region-coding. Obviously there are many Universal and Paramount titles exclusive in world wide release, but the same is true in reverse for HD DVD supporters. Region coding, however, makes more titles available on Blu-ray, not fewer. I normally don't buy Universal titles at all now, just waiting for the Blu-reay versions. I don't buy Paramount period after what they did. BTW, I am technically format-neutral capable, in that I own an A1, but I stopped wasting my money on HD DVDs almost a year ago (I think I have 21 or so). I guess if there was something I couldn't live without seeing in HD I could join netflix and rent it on HD DVD, but it hasn't come up yet. I doubt it will matter much in the next year... |

I also just rent the SD-DVD if I really want to see it.. but honestly, the only movie I've really wanted to see that wasn't on Blu lately was The Bourne Ultimatum... I rented it and now I don't really have any movies that I miss.

On extremely rare occasion I'll buy a sd dvd from Universal, but generally I just skip them altogether. I haven't touched anything by Paramount in any form since they took the money and ran.

Buying SDVD is just a waste of money IMO at this point so I just rent any I may want to see...HOWEVER I honestly could not tell you the last time I rented a Universal movie...
I dont just say this because they are HD exclusive but I really have not seen a Universal movie lately that even interest me enough to rent, new movies anyhow. They just havent been making good movies IMO. But its rental for me, atleast until I can get some of the catalogs on Blu. |

I don't rent it or buy it in SD.
I'll simply hold onto my money for when Universal/Paramount/Dreamworks is ready to take it from me. I'm perfectly ready and willing to fork over cash to them, but I guess they don't want it ![]() |
