Check out the trailer for it, it gives off a Curse of the Black Pearl vibe.

Last year's A-Team has, hands down, the greatest tank scene ever.
Trailers for both "Bambi" and the new "POTC" look good boss!

Yep, the flying tank rocks!

Flor (Vega) and her daughter emigrate from Mexico to America and she eventually finds work as a housekeeper for the Clasky's (Sandler). Flor must deal with the different lifestyle of the Clasky's and struggles to manage the effect they (the neurotic wife specifically) will have on her daughter.

I wasn't sure what I was going to think of this movie going in, but I knew early on in the run time that I was going to enjoy it for some reason.

I liked the story and that Flor was our main character and not Sandler's John. It wasn't exactly unpredictable but it also wasn't too cliché.

The movie gets major credit for
[Show spoiler]not putting Flor and John together at the end. It avoided what for a moment I thought it was building too and kept true to the character of Flor and didn't get all sappy on me at the end.

And I'll man up and say that Flor's last line,
[Show spoiler]"Is what you want for yourself to become someone very different than me?", made me

I also had to pause the movie to allow myself to finish laughing when
[Show spoiler] Flor's cousin smacked into that glass door

Paz Vega was very good and easily the best part about this movie. When she wasn't on screen I was waiting for her to come back

Sandler really surprised me. He wasn't anything amazing by any means, but he proved that he CAN do a (mostly) dramatic role well.

I say check it out even if you haven't seen it and my review has made you even slightly interested

Rating - 4.5/5

I loved the scene when Sandlers wife
[Show spoiler]mounted him and was getting kinda frenzied with the sex and Sandler says "Uh, you dont really need me for this, do you?" LMAO

She was a wackerdoodle for sure. Nice legs though.

Still Wow.

No need for 3D with the camera techniques Walt employed. Watch this in 2D and tell me you need something more immersive.

I don't remember how long it has been since I have seen it, but I'd say it has to be going on 20 years now. I haven't gotten around to watching my copy yet, but it will be great when I do.

Delicatessen

Directed and written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro
Starring Dominique Pinon, Marie-Laure Dougnac, Jean-Claude Dreyfus, Ticky Holgado
90 minutes
French langauge

The title of this thread is the movie review and discussion club, so here's a question:

Which directors and writers have the most inventive ideas and most original stories?

I ask that because I marvel at Jeunet's vision. I have seen Amelie, A Very Long Engagement, Micmacs and now Delicatessen. You can't predict what will happen in his stories after seeing a few minutes of the action. He's such an eccentric. He'll either annoy you or delight you with his quirky style.

Like all of his movies, Delicatessen exists in a unique world. The color palette consists of heavy use of yellow and brownish-red. It seems dirty, organic, industrial and not of this world. In some ways it's similar to Eraserhead, but the story is much more coherent.

Jeunet (or is it Caro, or both?) makes me laugh. Not in the same way as most comedies. There are all kinds of weird events throughout all his movies. Characters don't do what you would expect. It's like a giant freak show at times, but the story still exists.

Delicatessen is set in world where food is scarce. Society is breaking down to the point where
[Show spoiler]the unwary get killed and eaten.

The main character, Louison, is the next candidate. We see what happens to him.

The fun of Jeunet is the journey rather than the outcome. The stories can be incredibly complex. I think he's a clever guy who gives his audience credit for having similar intelligence.

His worlds are certainly not for everyone, but it seems that if you like one you'll like them all.

Fans of his work should check this out.

Overall 4/5

Die Hard - 2nd viewing of the film. This is a very good action movie but its not the greatest action film of all time as a lot of people have said. I pretty much prefer any of Arnold's better action films to this one. With that said the 2nd time around I think I enjoyed it more and can see why people say what they say about Han being a great villain and Bruce being a great action hero however. Loved the chemistry between Bruce and Carl Winslow lol. It had that great 90's feel to it which I miss and the film was a very nice ride all the way through. PQ was very good. Im sure most have seen this but if not then I do recommend this film.

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

Saw - I am gonna go through the series again so I can see how I actually rank these films. Its been a while since Ive watched the first one so it was good to revisit it again. What an original film and well executed. This movie has many twist and turns and none bigger than the end which to me may be the best twist/shock ending I have ever seen. One of the greatest horror films of all time in my book and it comes highly recommended.

Film Rating - 5 stars (out of 5)

Saw II - So on to the first sequel of the Saw series and it didnt disappoint. No its not as good as the original but that is a high task anyway. This sequel didnt fall short and continued the cleverness of the Jigsaw Killer. While the film also had twist and turns the ending wasnt as big of a shock or wow moment but still cleverly done and interesting. Again very good sequel and would also recommend this film as well especially if u like the first film.

Film Rating - 4 stars (out of 5)

Got Em!!

I can't wait to see what he does for The Wolverine and totally hope he gets to make his Noahs Ark movie. My muscles were strained and my state of mind was uneasy, a psychological horror movie, who would've thought that of a movie taking place in a ballet environment? Fantastic camera work and editing as well, score was silly great, nothing negative to say. Rent it, blindbuy or whatever. See it dudes, see it.

9.5/10
I have this weird rule to never give a perfect score for a first time viewing, I want to make sure my perfect scores stick forever.
I always wait for deals on newer films, but this might be a day 1 for me

Drive Angry - 4.5/5

It's a pretty decent film, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. There were a few times when the dialogue was pretty bad (Cage's first line) but overall it was pretty good. Amber Heard looked reallll good and put on a pretty good performance too. Overall, very unique story and lots of explosions and laughs, I recommend it.

Btw, the 3D was excellent.

I enjoyed the film, I think the film could of just gone a bit crazier with it's idea.

3D was awesome as well I agree!

The best part though was the end of the scene,
[Show spoiler]"Good sex." Followed by the look on Sandler's face

A lot of people think Saw (the first one) is a blood and guts festival, but it isnt. NOT AT ALL. Its misunderstood due to the misleading slasher horror marketing. Its actually a psycho-thriller, and a damn good one. It was very original, very suspenseful, and had a fantastic twist. I really liked it. That said, you cant give it a 5/5 because the acting SUCKED.

U are right as its not a slasher film by no means but its still a top notch horror film and to me it does deserve 5 stars. I didnt think the acting was that bad at all. Carey was very good, but I will agree the other guy wasnt all that but he had me laughing out loud during the scene when he
[Show spoiler]acted like he was dying from that cigarette haha.
Danny Glover was fine also. I mean it wanst top notch acting but I didnt think it was bad enough to bring down the film for being the masterpiece that it is. Got Em!!

I'm still going to give it to A-Team because of the aerial factor.

...but both of those are worthy of a nomination

Default Rango

Rango

This movie did thousands of things perfectly, but I didnt like it.

I recommend that you all see it because my reasons for disliking are odd and I will certainly be in the minority.

The story is definitely a Western. A simple story of an unlikely hero vs a corrupt bad guy. Simple, tight, quirky as heck and lots of action.

Lots of really good smartass adult one-liners.

The animation is spectacular. The attention to detail cant be questioned. Its truly glorious.

The cinematography is wild and wooly and pays blatant homage to a number of directors, including Sergio Leone, David Lynch, George Lucas, the Coen Brothers and more.

There are great scenes that pay homage to classic movies like Star Wars, the Wizard of Oz, Raiders of the Lost Ark and others.

The art direction is award winning calibre.

Editing is terrific.

The voice work is enthusiastic and terrific. Depp was fantastic, and the supporting cast is just fabulous as well.

Sound design and editing were mindboggling good and the detail is incredible.

Lighting work just kicks ass. Amazing.

Hans Zimmers original score is fabulous and his blatant rip offs of Ennio Morricone and others were smashing tributes to some of the greats.

So, what didnt I like? Four things didnt work for me.

1. Few movies are able to successfully blend comedy elements with very dark elements to produce a balance that works. Rango tried, but it didnt work for me. I enjoyed the funny and quirky, the dark left me cold. And I am someone who loves Grave of the Fireflies.

2. Rango (the animated character) was adorable and quirky as heck. Just terrific really. For me, all the other characters were animated too close to reality. Way too realistic looking and downright ugly. Some/most of the critters were so disgusting looking and creepy that it bothered me the entire flick. Grotesque instead of cute. Yep, that ugly.

3. The action scenes were sustained too long and over the top, disrupting the pacing.

4. I love foul language in films for realism. Deadwood But Rango belabored the fart, poop, pee, burp, anus, vomit gags. Too much is not funny, its just too much.

Assigning a numerical rating will be difficult, but I'll have to go with a 2.5/5.

A million "perfect" components blended with something I wanted to stop looking at because it was so ugly.

Go see it, because I am darn near alone in my opinion.

5/5 means "perfect", right? The two leads in the bathroom were horrible. Horrible means "not perfect"

Was it a great flick? Yep. Was it perfect? Nope.

Change your rating or I'll send Jigsaw to visit you.
