I got it for $20.99. I've noticed at both B&N and Amazon that prices change every few days, sometimes up, sometimes down, with no clear logic (at least not to me.) There were some titles that I considered buying on Amazon whose prices were pretty low and I figured they were permanently considered back list titles and would remain inexpensive, but they've been going back up. For titles that I wanted, B&N was less expensive than Amazon over the holidays, but it looks right now that they're much more expensive. Just as well...I spent far too much money on BD the last month and the credit card invoices will be here soon.

One thing I have noticed for both DVD and BD is that when the manufacturer reduces the price (as opposed to the retailer), it's usually for a "2nd printing" and that one does generally come without slipcovers and without any extra inserts. And if the cover was originally embossed, that's gone too. For movies I don't care that much about and expect to only watch once, if they're on sale on DVD for $5 to $7, I'll buy the DVD version (usually from J&R in NYC). Those almost never have either slipcases or extra inserts (aside from the front/back covers.)

Examples (The Amazon dates indicated are the dates I checked, not necessarily the date of the price increase; BN price is from today):

Bourne Trilogy (slim packaging): 1/1 $43 1/3 $48, 1/8 $39.49 BN: $60.89
African Queen (regular edition): 1/1 $26, 1/8 $24.99, 1/9 $25.99 BN: $34.79
Metropolis: 1/1 $22, 1/8 $23 BN: $35.99
Hellboy: 1/1 $9, 1/4 $14.49, 1/8 $18 BN: $22.49
I Am Legend: 1/1 $9, 1/4 $14, 1/8 $10 BN: $22.49
Hancock: 1/1 $8, 1/4 $9, 1/8 $11.49 BN: $17.99

I'd have to agree on this

However I haven't been impressed with the quality of the slips this year. On Beauty&TB and Fantasia (standalone release), the slips have a shimmery layer that has peeled off very easy on the edges of my card.

I was at Best Buy last night picking up a 2,000 Wii Points card and first decided to look at some Blu-Ray's. i was looking in the Disney section and noticed they had about 5-7 Fantasia 4-disc Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs on the shelf. all but two had no slip covers . for those who want this set with the original slip cover i suggest you go to the store and find one quick. there were some other Disney combo packs the same way without their original slip covers but i can't remember which ones. i don't know what gives but i'm glad i picked two of these up on release date with the slip covers with the $10 DMR coupons.

I ordered it on Monday from amazon.com (one-day shipping w/ prime) and it came with a slipcover. I could not believe the PQ! It's incredible.

As far as I know, the features are only available (for some reason with no plans for expansion outside of those countries) in the US and Canada. Don't know why, but its stupid on having it only in those countries for so long.

the "Virtual Vault" is present on the UK version of the package. But because it's BD-Live, i'm not sure i'm gonna be able to access it from greece (BD-Live for Pinocchio did not work either here). that's why i'm asking. it's not a major con for me, as the movies are pure diamonds, but it would be nice to watch the extras as well.

EDIT: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/customer-...e=UTF8&index=0

I received the package today and, in case anyone is interested, the virtual vault works

Anyone have confirmed with the previous editions of the movie if this is normal? It annoys me every time. I hear they fixed the audio lines missing in Pinocchio, but I'm guessing they didn't fix the missing color, and since no one seems to complain about this issue in Fantasia, I guess there'll never be a fix for this movie.

I'm astounded that this one is getting vaulted so quickly. It makes me wonder if they are planning a new edition at some point. However, I can't fathom a rationale for a new edition.

Fantasia has often "vaulted" quickly because it's much more of an adult/cinephile/collector title than other Disney films.

I guess I just don't remember it as vividly since I bought day 1 on DVD and VHS. I'm still disappointed that F2k didn't inspire more revisits to this concept. I really like Walt's original roadshow idea. I think the "Imax Only" platforming of F2K hampered that.

True, but they still edit out the parts that might "offend the children".

It wasn't children they were worried about offending.

No, I suppose you're right. They're worried about offending anyone.

And because their own personal traumas still believe that F40 is "unmarketable" and F2K was a "flop".
YOU know they're both classics, and WE know they're both classics, but news travels slowly around the Disney building--They're still stuck in the 1990 "Create a panic" mode as their "only chance" of selling the titles.

F2K wasn't a flop. It was just platformed improperly. Expecting people to turn out for IMAX in droves they made it a limited engagement Imax "event" with a wide theatrical release as an afterthought. Of course if you use Walt Disney's model of replacing a few segments, but retaining classic segments each time you release - the cost goes down with each production.

It made 60m$ USA without cracking the top 10.

Movies That Never Hit the Top 10 3
Movies That Never Hit the Top 5 8

It made it's budget back internationally.

They could easily tweak 2000 by ditching Mickey, Symphony #5, Piano Concerto #2, and Carnival of the Animals - then add a new intro "music for the sake of music" segment, have Pixar make one segment, have hand drawn make one segment, add Destino, and add Night on Bald Mountain. It would be relatively inexpensive and now you have Fantasia 2020.

Well, that's just it--It sold out solid for the four "event" months it was in IMAX theaters.
When it went to the small-town cinexplexes three months later, most newspapers didn't bother to review it (they'd already reviewed the January release), the few that did fan-quibbled about it being "less artsy" or "cropped for widescreen"--And, fact was, most core fans had already made the pilgrimage to see the big-city version last spring and those who hadn't didn't know it opened.
Disney only went by the "disappointing" mass-cineplex numbers, and got only the bad half of the story.

(Hey--I wasn't saying what rational people thought, I was saying what DISNEY still thinks.)

Oh I knew we saw eye to eye... I just like to expound on why it's wrong so that the fictional Disney executives that are reading my posts will run the company the way I want them to
