Trent did an interview last week, he stated that The Fragile will see a 5.1 mix this year 2011. (now will this be Blu-ray or SACD..or DVD-Audio..I hope it isnt Dual Disc)

He and Atticus Ross are working on another soundtrack The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo..

Should be a good year for NIN..now if that damn Year Zero tv show would come out..
Well seeing as Downward Spiral was on SACD, I would hope this one is released on it as well...

SACD is pretty much dead, BD-A has potential (doubtful, but it's there). I hope it's in BD-A as well, why would you prefer it to be on the inferior SACD format?

TDS was released as a Deluxe Edition in 2004. This is 2011. Like Ghosts I-IV and The Social Network soundtrack it will be released on Blu-ray which will allow any number of value-added-content options that SACD simply cannot do, like the videos from the album with lossless surround sound, interactive discography, tour footage, interview footage, and anything else Mr. Reznor may choose to use. For any number of these reasons SACD would be inferior, not to mention that the source material is likely PCM.

A smart guy like Trent is well aware that Blu-ray makes the most sense in 2011. My vote without hesitation is for Blu-ray and we've already seen Trent's preference for the format.

I highly doubt Reznor will bother with SACD. He's not exactly behind the curve of technology, and since his last two 5.1 releases haven't been SACD, I doubt this one will be either.

Ahem! Finally a bit more news.

The 5.1 mixes are done and sound amazing. Alan was the only person who could have possibly done it, and he did not disappoint. There are a couple other elements involved that we want to get right before we put this into production. These involve packaging and additional content. Patience, my friends.

Another mention in an interview posted last week:

Quote:
David Farrier: I know there was talk of a The Fragile re-issue at some point - is that still on the cards?

Trent Reznor: Yeah, we've done a lot of the work for that. Really what it's come down to is with all the other stuff going on, the Fragile thing in particular, I want to make sure I get it right. You know, we've mixed everything in surround, it sounds amazing, we have a great package ready to go. I just stumbled across 40-or-so demos that are from that era that didn't turn into songs, that range from sound effects to full-fledge pieces of music, and I kind of feel like - something should happen with that.

And I think it has something to do with that package, and I just need the bandwidth to kind of calmly think about it, and decide how much effort I want to devote into that and what to do with it. I have a lot of ideas that could eat up immense amounts of time and I'm trying to weigh out - just think it through. I don't want to pull the trigger on something and go, 'Man, I should have done it in this way.' And I just haven't had a chance to be in a calm place where I can think it through completely and make that decision.

Man, I've been excited for this since 2005!!!! I guess we might finally get it in 2015?

Honestly, I don't know if this will ever happen. I could see Trent just releasing the 5.1 files on some file sharing site like he did with Closure at this point. Believe me, I would KILL KILL KILL to have this, I absolutely love The Fragile and everything from the Fragile era (I sincerely hope that Still gets included in all this with a high resolution and/or 5.1 mix) but at this point how many years can this go on with nothing to show.

I buy anything that has Reznor's name on it (), but this is something I've been craving since it was first discussed. The Fragile is probably my favorite of his work, really hoping this sees the light of day.

Would love a BD release and he should re-release the 5.1 mixes of The Downward Spiral and With Teeth on BD as well.
