I'm not really a Star Trek fan, only really liking TNG, but I found an image off Amazon showing how the contents will look, so I thought I'd share it with you.

[Show spoiler]

It looks pretty cool and once the price has come down enough I may get it, but of course as I mentioned, I'm not a Trekkie, so I'll pass for now.

Wow look at the amazing star fields and swirling galaxy. Talk about false advertising. The new effects look good but not that good....

Its Trekker young man Trekkies are weirdos.... Hopefully they won't send down the Wraith of Khan on me....

Can't say the packaging looks very imaginative to me, unless there's a book or a pair of rubber ears hiding in the box. I seem to recall the original series was issued on DVD years ago in plastic pods that showed a bit of effort had been put in.

Meanwhile, if you'd really like to suffer search Youtube for The Firm Star Trekkin' for one of the most irritating records ever made. I warned you

Forgive me for bumping this thread but just in case any Star Trek fans are interested - in addition to releasing the Original Series as a complete set on DVD and BD, Paramount in the UK are releasing the whole of The Next Generation on DVD as well, with packaging to match the TOS release.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Trek-Ne...221123&sr=1-13

Just thought it might be of interest to some fans considering the last 3 'Complete Series' DVD boxsets TNG had are all out of print (and the most recent one, the 20th Anniversary, had terribly cheap packaging). And, considering the amount of time and money it would take to get the series in HD, DVD is gonna be as good as it gets for a while. (plus it looks from the Amazon page to just be the already-existing discs put into new packaging, so not struck from new masters or anything.)

I quite like the slimcases they're still available for under £15 at amazon (along with the Voyager DS9 and Enterprise sets). I picked up Season Three from Tesco's a while back for a bargain £4! If Paramount put a decent price on this new set, say £70 a lot of people would jump at it!

Paramount don't really get value for money....

Indeed, getting all of the slimcases individually and new would be, what, £105? And yet this is £150? It may contain the bonus disc that the 20th anniversary set had, but still, it's one disc. At least with the incredibly expensive TOS set, the individual releases are really expensive anyway and so the price makes a bit of sense.

I suppose they're counting on suckers like me who want to get TV shows in entire series boxsets as opposed to individual releases, and will therefore shell out for this. I spent way too much on an OOP DS9 complete set a couple of years ago for just such a reason, and I'm hoping that this release will cause the complete 'grey' OOP TNG set to be put up on Amazon by sellers to match it...

I've already got season 2 on blu ray. For now I'll stick with the DVD versions of seasons 1 & 3 I already have. If the price came down I'd consider upgrading the other seasons to blu ray, but £50 a season is too much.

I have all the star trek seasons on DVD (TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT) and all the movies on blu ray, so it's not as if I need to complete my collection or anything.

these blu rays are vastly over priced for such an old show. I bought Season 1 and yes it does look stunning, the new fx are done by guys that where fans so they took a lot of care not to over do them, the result is a perfect balance. But for nearly £50 a season for a 45 year old show, it really is taking the piss.

and thats coming from a hardcore trek fan

A couple of questions about this set:

1. I assume "The Cage" is included with new effects aswell?
2. Is there an option to watch the episodes with their original effects?

I've heard people raving about the new special effects, but I was brought up on repeats of this show, and the low budget effects gave it a real charm in my opinion.

I already have all 7 of the re-released sets;

Took that pic from the listing, might just be a stock image they've added by mistake or all of those are just housed in the TNG complete collection box. Either way I'm not buying again lol

I really want to get the Original series on blu-ray, but prices are still a little crazy.

I was in WHSmiths and saw (I think it was) on the back page of one of the magazines, that TNG was coming June, DS9 in July, Voyager in August and Enterprise in September. I assume this is just too DVD, no BR versions.

Anyway if they have already been released why are they re-releasing them, is this just as full series box sets like pictured above, cause I much prefer buying them as individual seasons cause it helps spread the cost out a little.

Some people like having them all in a big boxset, I generally much prefer to buy my TV shows like this... in fact, I try to avoid buying individual seasons until the whole thing is out, and I just watch them online/on TV until then.

Nice that the rest of them are coming out, I guess. The original DVD Complete Series boxsets of TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT are long out of print, though I have the DS9 one, I'm sure it'll be less collectable now! DS9 is already up for pre-order on a few websites, though no pictures yet (Amazon's one is an image of the US boxsets, and is obviously not final)

Figures since I just got done ripping the 3 box sets to mkv...managed to fit all 79 episodes plus 2 pilots onto 4 blu-rays. Hopefully the DTS is full 1510Kbps for all episodes of this new box set since Season1 box set was only at 755kbps DTS bit rate for the first 29 episodes. Audio was upgraded to full 1510Kbps DTS when Season2&3 box sets were released though...
