Default component vs HDMI

I think I made a newbie mistake. I purchased a Sony Blu-ray 300 at Best Buy but when I got home I realized my HDTV does not have HDMI. I am currently using component cables for video.

Should I take the Blu-ray back or will I get the blu ray picture quality without the HDMI? I called Best Buy and they said it would be a waste of money to keep the player due to not being able to notice the difference between standard DVD's and Blu-ray.

Little help here.... thanks in advance.

Ken

1080i/720p, but no 1080P. Still a GREAT picture, much better than standard def. Stupid Best Buy....

You do mean component (Red, Green, and Blue) and not composite (red, white, and yellow) right? Component doesn't have audio?

You will see the differance. You are just going to be missing out on the better audio that HDMI would be able to offer. IF you even have a audio system that accepts HDMI. High Def movies still look great and better then standard def at 720p 1080i/p.

With component inputs, 1080i is the best you're going to do anyway.

Keep and enjoy the Blu.

since your tv doesn't have hdmi, its prolly not 1080p, so it doesn't matter you're only getting 1080i. you're gonna love it. keep it

Thanks everyone for the input. Rechecked my system, yes, component. My equipment HDTV and Kenwood reciever are 5 years old...so nope, no HDMI.

I will be getting the blu-ray on 1/4/08. Will update then on my impressions.

BTW, what would your desert island blu-ray disc be? If 3 to take with you.

720p > 1080i... and component does 720p. I have my blu plugged up through component on 720 and love it, plus I work at Best Buy, whoever told you that obviously doesn't have a blu-ray player. You should go back and educate him now. I would.
